Has anyone here gone out and purchased or already have an 802.11AC router? Are the speeds noticeably better from just a normal 802.11N (say an Apple Airport Extreme) wireless router? I've been pretty curious about this.
You mean the speed of Internet over WIFi connection? No, it won't be - you'll still be limited by your Internet package's speed. And for that, even 802.11n router is good enough - I have Asus RT-N66U, which is a 802.11n router BUT with an awesome range and signal strength which allows me to max out my Internet package's speed in any part of my house with any device.
