8gb or 16gb

I opted for the 16 because of the lack of an SD slot and, since this is smaller, I may actually use it to listen to music on the go. I can' do that easily with my giant 10-inch Toshiba Thrive. It annoys me that it apparently only costs them about $8 more to install 16GB instead of 8GB, but they charge $50 more. But what can you do? Instead of later bonking myself in the head because I ran out of memory, I'll forget within a week that I slightly overpaid for as much memory as possible. I hope they ship it soon.

Kudos, you hit the nail on its head.

Oh my lord! Evil? LOL. No, that's business. If $50 is really that much difference, you probably should stick to buying a use nook b&w off craigslist. That $199 probably put a pinch on ya.

This coming from the guy who can't type out the words Black and White. And it is "evil" for a company to clearly overcharge you on 8 gb of storage. I can get an 8 gb microSD card on Amazon for $4.23. But hey electronic companies thrive on Americans because we are too stupid with our money as to sit down and go, well maybe I don't need to put an entire season of (INSERT DUMB SHOW YOU PROBABLY WATCH) I can have a few episodes and remove them once I am done watching them.

Have a great day.

Does that $8 figure come from ASUS or are you and industry insider?

It comes from looking up a 8gb microSDHC card on Amazon. Do any of your comments come from your brain or are you just throwing up on your keyboard at this point?

Oh yeah, I forgot. They just buy one off Amazon and it installs itself.

Little Quinn is adorable. Hope he got his brains from his mommy, not his daddy.

:p

Get your eyes checked Quinn is a girl. Secondly if you bothered to read my previous posts, what I was saying is instead of Google charging $50 for 8 gb of storage they could have installed a MicroSD adapter.

I am okay with 8 gb, I plan to use cloud services like Drive and Music. But for those of you who like to hoard data on your devices it would have been a less evil choice to allow those to buy inexpensive microSDHC cards instead of force them to spend the extra money.

You guys all crack me up. Google is selling the unit at cost, maybe making a very small amount of money on the 16gb. Go get mad at the other Android tablet manufacturers for having much higher profit margins. I for one will praise apple and happily give them my money for an outstanding tablet.

Considering companies like Google, Apple, etc have HUGE economies of scale, it's perceivable that an extra 8GB would cost them even less than what you would find on Amazon, etc. Clearly they want you to utilize the their cloud service.

16GB is for gamers in my estimation. But beyond that this device was not designed for you if your anti-cloud. I know you guys want to support Google direct and all, but I imagine this is a lead device for other tabs with more power user options later on.

How I decided: 5.46gb left, my phone currently has 588 MB for apps, leaving around 4.8 gb. Plenty of room for an album, more apps or a movie if I'm going on a road trip or know I'll be using it, I don't need to dump every thing I own at one time since rarely will I be trapped in a cave for days at a time.

Exactly, one example a yahoo gave is when he goes camping he is not near his computer or wifi. Why would you take your tablet camping?

I chose the 16GB model. This will be my first Android since the HTC Evo, which I had a 16GB card for. I had it constantly filled up and was frustrated by that. I plan the utilize the cloud when I can, but I also like having content physically on my device. I'm a digital hoarder!

As much as I wanted an SD card. And wanted more local storage. I couldn't see myself paying $50 for 8gb.

Hey I have no problem with them making a profit.... I still feel its a great deal at $249 for a 16GB...better value than any other tablet on the market that I know! (hince why I am buying one!)

Me neither I want them to succeed and they should make a profit on their amazing new device. But these days with storage being so damn cheap I doubt it would have cost more than $4-5 more per device for a 16-32gb version.

I think most people would agree a $250 32gb Nexus 7 would not only be amazing, but would have shut a lot of people up, and gained a lot more buyers.

I was one of those buyers that was on the fence because there was no SD slot. If there was a 16gb and 32gb, I'm not sure if I would have thought twice.

Well worth every penny imo. I could have wished for a micro sd card slot, but I will be buying one regardless
