A dilemma between Nexus and Rezound

Rezound S-OFF is probably two or three weeks away. evil_dev is actively working on it and progress is being made. Not soon enough for me and as Mapex said HTC devices with cooked roms don't always work perfectly. My dinc2 had issues with AOSP roms such as low call volume and an even crappier camera results.

2 more days and hopefully the phone will be released.

Oh, I do this with gadgets all the time!! My kids (and even my wife) are fine with this since they get new stuff regularly as well as I move up to the next new thing! :0)

I have been reading up on both and, while you might think this was a no-brainer in favor of the Nexus, there is just enough to give me pause. Here are my thoughts:

1. I prefer HTC builds to Samsung. I like phones with more heft and I hate "plasticy" feeling phones.

5. The screens are comparable, some saying the Rezound is actually the better screen.

Regarding #1 - Have you seen one in person yet? From what I have "heard", it's not that plasticky feeling.
Regarding #5 - Have you seen one in person yet? Seriously, everything I have "heard" is that the GN has a screen that is unparalleled.

The only thing negative they say about the Rezound hardware is that it is heavy, but I actually like that in a phone.

Have you s...just kidding! After 21 months with my OG Droid, I do NOT like heavy phones. I keep it in my front pocket when I am walking around and depending on what I am wearing, it may cause a little saggage. Not a fan of the heavy phone.

I was torn between the gn and the rezound for a while but after visiting a verizon store and playing with a rezound and a razr today I was reminded if how much I dislike sense and htc. I liked the razr more but then I'm not a huge motorola fan and the lack of removable battery is just about a deal breaker. Gn it is!

OK, I got the Rezound as an "interim" phone and I will say that I like the phone a lot, with a few reservations. The screen is incredible, the form factor and "heft" are perfect for me. I like the shape (a bit thinner and longer than my Thunderbolt), and the Sense UI is mostly tucked away behind the awesome Launcher Pro, so that is not a real problem. It is super fast an smooth. The camera is a step up from my Thunderbolt, and the speaker audio (which is important to me, since I listen to audio podcasts in the car, and I like not having to plug it into the stereo), is very loud (something they say is lacking in the Nexus).

What IS a problem is the Verizon apps, right now VCast Media Manager won't stop trying to upload something, so I am restarting to wipe it out. It doesn't even show up in the Running apps so I can kill it. Other than that, no problems. (One thing that makes me nervous about the Nexus is that they say these Verizon apps will still be on it!).

I will still likely get the Nexus when it comes out (unless it just feels too light, or there seems to be a lot of problems upon release), I could definitely live with this Rezound. Especially when it gets ICS.

The nexus will have the MY Verizon app and VZ Backup - none of the others. Even those two can be disabled.

I've been so close to pulling the trigger on the Rezound after using one several times. Yesterday I was planning on heading out to my local corp store to pick one up as I am tired of the GN release debacle and itching to get off the iPhone 4, when my bro-law (retailer) texted me to let me know he got confirmation that the 15th is a go. It's either the 15th or Rezound.

2. I am not worried about Sense because I will immediately put LauncherPro on it, like I have with my current Thunderbolt.

3. The camera seems seriously better on the Rezound.

4. ICS will come to the Rezound early next year, or at least a CyanogenMod version will come. I have no problem rooting and ROM'ing.

5. The screens are comparable, some saying the Rezound is actually the better screen.

But, there is also the concern of not getting future updates in a timely fashion, and I would love to get my hands on ICS sooner rather than later. The extended battery sounds great with the Nexus as well.

Lastly, I could buy the Rezound now, test drive it and if I don't like it, swap it for the Nexus when it comes out (presumably within the return window).

Any thoughts?

1. The Nexus actually feels the same if not better than the rezound. The nexus is not like other samsung phones.

2. As much as I love lp, I love the pure google experience and that it what you're getting from the Nexus.

3. In terms of camera quality, their equal and the Nexus takes pictures faster than the rezound, the rezound picture quality is a little better, but comes with a cost of waiting for the picture to snap. Also, the built in camera features on the Nexus are better, especially the panoramic feature.

4. I love the no button set up with ICS and sense will ruin the ICS experience. Once again, the pure google experience wins here.

5. As for the screen, quality is the same, but the rezounds screen is tall and skinny with a smaller screen. The Nexus hits the sweet spot for me in terms of size.

Lastly, since I deal with phones on a daily basis at work, htc phones always come in more with problems than samsung phones. HTC phones always have messaging problems and updates never come through correctly.

If the Rezound was already rooted or had an unlocked bootloader, this would be an easy decision.

Other than that, I'm looking for a zero-lag shutter on a camera. And it seems only the iPhone and GN offer that.

As you can see i have a rezound as my work phone, so I've used both and I just feel there's no comparison.

Joe, I think I am convinced on all of your points. The cameras are close enough not to make much of a difference and I am becoming reassured regarding the Samsung build issue. Everyone seems to be saying it does not feel like the other Samsung phones. The Charge, for example, felt like a toy.

While I could definitely be happy with this Rezound, I will get the Nexus unless there is something very odd. In the meantime, I am much less frustrated with the waiting since I have a new toy to play with!!

The rezound will have s-off in a matter of days. The devs working on it are so close and already have root. Pretty soon, the rezound will be impossible to beat. People complaining about no root on the rezound will need to put a foot in their mouths pretty soon.

Oh and another huge point I forgot to make is the Nexus's battery life is superior to the rezounds battery life. Htc needs to get on the ball with battery life. I shouldn't have to make my phone weight 10lbs to have it last a day, the nexus battery is the best I've seen thus far.

Joe, that is very good to know. I will likely get the extended battery anyway, just to be on the safe side. And, maybe it will add a bit of the weight I want!! :0)

I've had my Rezound for 4 days now, and I like it more every day. The screen is fantastic and the camera really impressed me.

I'm probably still gonna switch to the Nexus, because it has vanilla ICS and a nice design for the extended battery.

On topic, I almost pulled the trigger on the Rezound several times in the past week. Hopefully the Nexus doesn't disappoint.

I'm in a similar boat. Coming from my trucks HTC Incredible roooted and romed with Cyanogen 7. I am stuck whether I want the Rezound or the Galaxy Nexus. I have yet to get my hands on either device to "play" around with them. I have an upgrade right now, and it looks like the Rezound woult be $299 and the Galaxy Nexus would be $199. Money is not really a big deal.

In the end, I will probably root and rom whatever phone I choose to buy. I just cant decide If I want ICS right away, or get the Rezound runninb GB.
