A penny for your thoughts!

The news organizations are just regurgitating the Wall Street Journal's speculations. Yes, I think it's probably accurate, but it's not *OFFICIAL* yet.

That being said, when the iphone does come to VZW, I don't know how much difference it's really going to make, at least to anyone who's going to be reading these forums. It will take business away from AT&T and bring it to Verizon, which in the short term is going to overwhelm the network a bit but in the long term is going to make it bigger and stronger (which will only benefit us all).

The folks who buy a smartphone because it's the thing to have, but don't know how to work it anyway, will probably buy iphones instead of Android phones, but I don't see how that's a bad thing for the rest of us.

It is speculation until it is officially announced by Verizon or Apple. "I read it in the news" no longer holds the same water it may have years ago when they actually investigated and didn't rush stories to press to be the first ones reporting it. The "news" has been speculating this every so often based on rumors, and the reason for the speculation this time is that it was leaked by a manufacturing company that they have been making CDMA iPhones ready to ship at a moments notice. Funny thing is, the last time I read about all of this, these CDMA phones could actually be for Sprint, wouldn't that be a big laugh? ;)

So my thoughts? 32 Gigs is not enough for my entire music collection, I will keep my 64 Gig iPod Touch for now. If they release a 64 Gig version of the iPhone and make the call quality and phone as good as my Droid X, if the signal holds and they fix the Antenna-Gate situation, and I am able to type as easily as I can on my Droid X.....when my contract is up, I would explore that possibility. Quite a few things would have to be addressed for me to take that leap.

I will probably get one and switch between my android phones and the iPhone.

I just got my DroidX this week, and I love it. Its way way faster than my Droid1.

Hell by the time the iphone is released with CDMA/VZW the X will look long in the tooth. The next gen of top tier Droids will be something to behold. That said, I love my X. I just understand it's a world where you are only king of the heep for about a month or few, then you're old news.

I just read an article on bloomberg.com talking about a verizon iphone for next year; I hear you guys on the whole "not official" thing, but I also cannot see editors for bloomberg taking a wild stab based on any less-than-credible information and running with it.

As far as the question goes, no way. I also think that it's a little too late for apple. There will absolutely be a lot of consumers getting this, but I think a large percentage will be disgruntled at&t customers switching.
This is all kind of a day late and a dollar short for apple. According to nielson, android is now the most popular mobile os. I believe that apple stuck to exclusivity with at&t for far too long, and it gave other carriers a window to pump android phones as an alternative, especially when there was so much negative sentiment towards at&t's service.
Again, it's not like people are not going to get the iphone on verizon, but android is not going to lose ground.
I, for one, wouldn't even consider it.

I would have gotten a iphone a year ago if it had came to Verizon but ever since I got my Droid X, I have no desire whatsoever to switch to a different phone. I love that my interface can be customized with my Android device.
All The iphone's out there look the same. You can't really change the user interface at all. The iphone is a very boring looking phone imo.

Two HUGE advantages of Droid over iPhone:

1. You can upgrade the memory yourself
2. You can access the battery

Winner: Droid

I, along with almost all of you guys/girls, would keep our Droid's. Personally I feel my screen makes the iphones look like a tiny screen, despite higher resolution I would rather have more real estate. Although, the general public(people who don't give a rats a** about cusomization or performance) will most likely ditch a droid for an iphone simply for the fact that its an iphone. People always say my droid is like an iphone or my phone has iphone apps, I literally heard a girl say that her phone(droid 1) has all the iphone apps. My point is general people will ditch their droids for an iphone just because of the apperance factor, meaning they have a phone that everyone knows about and is popular. Sales may decline a little due to this, but I believe that people who actually know what android is capable of will keep droids over iphones anyday.

No chance I will replace my DX. I bought the original Droid when it came out on opening day and ever since then its been in my blood!

This is what I came here to post. The hype over this device is rediculous.

The whole iPhone to VZW has being going on forever. No, I won't switch. I love the whole droid concept and platform. I have an iTouch, but am using my X more and more for the things that my iTouch does. I may give the Touch to my daughter when I figure out how to get movies on my X.

No, I will stick with my X.

People's minds will be blown if/when iPhone comes to Verizon, thus making the iPhone usable as a PHONE.

FYI, many iPhone users don't have trouble with dropped calls. In some areas, AT&T has good coverage and service. I know I do. Both the iPhones I've had over the past 3 years have been good phones.

I'm considering a Droid X for other reasons.

I totally felt this way! When I heard the announcement this morning I felt that Iphone makers woke up. They seen how VZ customers reacted to the droid and now they realized how " Exclusive" made them no money! I personally will ride with Google I think this will make Google come even better on there phones!

Verizon was approached first to carry the iPhone and refused. Going to AT&T wasn't Apple's first choice.

Having said that, do you really thing Apple isn't making money on the iPhone? They're raking in tons of money. They'll make more with one on Verizon as well, but it's not like they're going broke.

Those are not advantages to the vast majority of users. I've owned cell phones since 1991 and have never carried an extra battery.

Since I've had iPhones, I've never approached the memory limit.

There are other features that make the X appealing vs the iPhone.

Android has SDK, AppInventor, SL4A so you can write your own apps without having to get approval from Steve to install them on your phone.
There's no question which one I'd stay with. :-)

So true!;)

I wanted an iphone before but using android and seeing all the stuff I can do with my phone that I can't with iphone ill never get an iphone. Keep it. Id rather it stays on art and gets beat on by android.

"INSERT SOURCE HERE" has said the iPhone is coming to Verizon during "INSERT DATE HERE" for god knows how long. If you want an iPhone then go get one on at&t. If not then went for your all mighty iPhone. Untill then, play with a Droid and you'll see how a real phone that can make phone calls works.

Agreed. I remember so-called 'credible' sources saying the same thing a year ago. Steve Jobs was supposed to announcements a VZW iPhone in Jan of 2010. Instead, he announced the iPad.

The only thing that we supposedly know is that Apple is ordering CDMA chips from Qualcomm. We also know that in a court filing two years ago, it was revealed that the Apple/AT&T exclusive agreement ran through 2012. So this means one of several things.

1) Apple is breaking its exclusivity with AT&T one year early and paying a huge penalty to be on VZW. This to me is doubtful. I thing option 2 or 3 below is far more likely.

2) Apple is producing a CDMA iPhone for another market. There are other CDMA carriers in the world, specifically in India or China.

3) Apple is adding a CDMA chip to the iPad, which is not part of the AT&T exclusivity agreement.

Frankly, assuming the reports of the Qualcomm orders are true, I think that #3 is the most likely, followed by #2. I personally don't think that we will see a Verizon iPhone until at least 2012, and at that point it will be an LTE phone, not a CDMA phone.

Exactly, and nobody knows his many years the iPhone was in production before the first one was released in 2007. They might be offing CDMA chips now so that when they can go on VZW or Sprint, they will have tested that it works. Its not like its a Lego and they can take out a certain color block (GSM) and then put in a CDMA block to take its place. It takes a bunch of time and testing.
