A quick word on the DInc 720p update rollout

Hey DI faithful,

I didn't think this warranted a full blog post but thought you all should know. Droid Life has it on good authority that the update has only gone out to a small test group for now. Hopefully the rest of us will see it soon.

More as we know it....

Hell Yeah, I rooted using unrevoked, very easy to do now.
yesterday I followed xda instructions to unroot, load new update and reroot again
All is great, seen bettery battery life today already, 720 video is super, and now can use incredilight! works great with camcorder or as a bright *** flashlight.
have high speed at home so dont need wifitether but will get around to setting it up later anyway. my signal even jumped a bar up at home as well....

So I take it you are one of the few that got this OTA update, or did you DL it from somewhere?

It was leaked so you can manually update it, though personally i would just wait a couple days for the ota.

I would advise the same. You never know if something weird might go down in the future. Besides, its only a couple days. (grrrrrrr....)

Shame. I want the 720p video recording.

Look around on YouTube for some videos of the 720p video recording on the Incredible. At least on the 'leaked' OTA, it's not that great. The framerate is fairly low.

I suggest rooting; I'm having fun with Froyo ;) Then I'll just go back to stock when this OTA starts getting pushed.

Where did you get Froyo for the Incredible? What's the advantage of running it now vs waiting for it?

Its a build of Cyanogen. It is faster, and it is without Sense UI. It's fun to play around with, and fairly stable. The only things that aren't working now are the camera, and the GPS.

Basically, it's fun to play with, but it isn't the final build.

Its not that bad, for a phone. Its not a dedicated camcorder with a big *** sensor and lense.

yeah thats stopping me, camera and gps are used daily for me and wont try rom till they work right.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but had to try it out. I flashed the skyraider ROM the only thing not working on it is the camera. The GPS etc works. However it was fun to play with for a few hours and run some speed tests etc. The speed difference is highly noticeable especially when installing apps in the background while doing something else, or running live wallpapers.

However I'm going to stay with 2.1 until we get a fully working Froyo ROM. As far as the 720p recording with the Inc, I was excited about it till I saw the stuff about the FPS, and as seen in that youtube links it appears to be kind of jittery. So eh, I'll hold off till I have a working Froyo ROM with 720p etc.
