Aargh!! Urgently need lockscreen help

Woke up this morning to my Nexus 4 displaying a lockscreen entry bar. I have never even set a lockscreen password therefore I cannot enter one. How the heck do I unlock my phone? I have only ever used swipe to unlock the screen. I recently upgraded to 4.4.2 and not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I urgently need my phone for work. I am always on the move and need to be able to access my email wherever I am. It does not give me a forgot password option.

If you fail your password entry enough times I believe it will ask for your Google password. If you don't remember that, you'll have to factory reset your phone from the bootloader.

It just asks me to wait 30 seconds and try again. Called Google Help and they are sending me some things to try.
