Abandoning the Incredible to Wait for Droid X

Come July 15th will Verizon even allow you to switch to a Droid X if you have only had a Droid Inc for two weeks?

Besides who's to say after waiting a month for my Incredible they wouldn't just put me back in line again for a the new Droid X... If I can keep my Incredible while I wait then we'll talk. :p

I don't care for the X as the INC is the right size for me.....I think the EVO and the X are too big and are becoming gps size phones :)....
Wonder if there is yet another problem with the shipping of the INC and this is being pushed out to get customers into an android device asap.....

Bummed that the INC came with a 2gb card yet the moto's come with a 16gb....

So, did the press conference sway anybody's decision?

The idea of having a larger screen is becoming more and more appealing to me, but the event didn't reveal anything mind-blowing. No Flash at launch, no Froyo at launch, extra cost for WiFi tethering...

From a technical aspect I think the manufacturers never actually got their hands on Froyo. Froyo open source is now available to all developers and manufacturers. Today is really day 1.

It was disappointing that no Froyo on the X at release but Sanjay Jha indicated that Froyo will be available by late summer. To be fair to the manufacturer I don't think Google has really outed the 2.2 code for manufacturers to start working on their custom builds. It appears Google announced Froyo at I/o but Froyo was still a few weeks from completion, hence the 2 small updates that were sent out to media selected Nexus One's. They basically used the media members and their own staff to field test their latest froyo builds.

If we are to believe Jha then late summer should indicate an August date, with mid-Sept being the absolute latest. If the device is released on July 15th then a one or one and a half month wait isn't really excruciating.

Especially considering no device has froyo yet. It hasn't been sent out in an OTA update. Only one getting the OtA's are media members that were preselected to help them field test.

Also extra cost for wifi tethering should've been expected. I wouldn't have expected otherwise. You can always root, when it becomes available, and install a custom 2.2 rom on the x. Wifi tethering is built into 2.2 at no cost.

Throughly not impressed with it. The only three things I see that make it better than the EVO is it's on Verizon, Has 8GB internal with a 16GB card, and a 1GHz OMAP processor. The screen appears to be more high res but not sure.

I was expecting a bit more out of Motorola on this phone, something with a much higher res screen specifically, other than that it's 'just another phone' like the Evo, Aria, etc. Well still forward looking to next year, by then all the current phones will look like bricks. Congrats on anyone who is getting on though, it should be a really nice phone.

Just as a side note: One thing that bugs me is physical buttons? Is anyone else thinking WTF or am I just not seeing the upside over haptic buttons?

30 day money back promise....take it back pay the $35, wait about 2-3 weeks, get your X. Good luck with it.

I wish I could, but it's my 2nd DInc, I'm past my 30 days in total and I've already cancelled my AT&T contract; so I don't have a phone to fall back on in the interim of now and July 15. :(

Sooooo...anyone want to buy an Incredible in a month?:o

Nothing really sold me on this thing today, I'm not sure it was really worthy of a special media event...

And I agree about the physical buttons, it just makes the phone seem dated.

The media event threw me off as well. It's not LTE. It's not on a brand new OS. The processor isn't light years ahead. No front facing camera so it's not like video conferencing is a factor.

I'm not saying it won't be a great phone, but I think the media event had more to do with tomorrow's iPhone launch than promoting the device as revolutionary.

I am about to cancel order for Dinc, can anyone confirm though that X has better GPU than Dinc?

I can't help beyond hearing rumors that it does.

If you do cancel, please let us know if Verizon gives you trouble or if it's not a big deal. It would be helpful to people who are contemplating doing the same thing.

I almost jumped ship (Inc coming Friday supposedly), but after being at Best Buy tonight and handling the HD2 (same size as Evo), there is no way I could get the X. It just wasn't comfortable holding it in my hand.

I think Moto is doing a good thing with this phone. They've brought some competition to the Inc, and to the Evo and Iphone4 even though they're on different networks. It has some features missing from others but compromises in size, so in the end it's about what features are more important. I like options, and I think I chose well initially for me.

Next summer is going to be very interesting, and just in time for the next upgrade in the Family plan.

Well the rep can't cancel it and neither can his supervisor... Apparently I'll just have to deny the delivery when FedEx comes by... Kind of sucks, but not that big of a deal.

I'd stay with Incredible, the Droid X is waaay too big. My Evo is already too big for, I'd much rather have the Incredible if it was on Sprint.

I'm going to swing by Best Buy sometime before Dinc gets here and mess with Evo. I have before and didn't feel it was too big, but I want to make double sure. If it's too big I'll just go ahead and keep the Dinc.

I bolded what applies to me. I got a surprise iPad today (very cool, it truly is), so i wont be getting an X. I did some math, and the X's screen is almost half that of the iPad's. Um, wow. So yeah, there is no way i can use that on a daily basis. Absolutely not.

Inc., you're all mine. Again.

Hmmm, initial reviews saying X can be a bit sluggish when switching between screens. Screen even blacked out at times before loading... I may stick with Dinc.

I think the screensize is cool and all but in my opinon the Incredible is a perfect size for a phone, not to mention, in the age of touchscreen, WHY ARE THEY STILL MAKING SOLID BUTTONS? This is just an area more suseptible to lint, dirt and broken buttons. I have never been a fan of motorola, My incredible is an amazing phone, the only thing that would possibly lead me to want to trade it is if they released a newer incredible with a front facing camera.

Well, after the VZW rep said she put a note to my account and then called back a few days later to confirm the cancellation, today, I got an email saying my VZW phone is on it's way via FedEx with a tracking number. It all seems to be a waste of time. I'm just going to refuse deliver and have it sent back.

I think the Droid X will be too big for me, but wold love HDMI out. Does anyone know if the Milestone XT720 is going to hit the US market? It has exactly what I'm looking for.
