Abandoning the Incredible to Wait for Droid X

I had the devour and it really turned me off of moto phones. Comming from the bb storm the Inc is so much nicer all around. im using swype and it makes typing way easier. and personally i dont like the size of the evo/droidx. im definately impressed

I am on Incredible number 3. Dinc number 1 kept switching off and on the data connections. VZW said it was a known issue. Dinc 2 had a sticking power button. Im hoping Dinc 3 works. Cool part is...Dinc 3 is on backorder and they aren't sure when the warrant replacements are going to be available. Im not sold on HTC's build quality.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the X is to big for what I need. If I wanted a huge phone like that, I'd go for the Dell Streak, or an iPad.

I don't like the transition to these huge phones; they are blurring the line between phone and tablet, almost like they want in on the excitement the (iPad) tablets has created here lately. Look at the iPhone (yes, I went there). I LIKE having an extremely high pixel density. The EVO and X won't have that. Stop going huge. Instead, step back and fix the battery, or something.

That's just my opinion. I know guys who love the EVO. I don't, and ever since the Moto Q I haven't liked Motorola either.

Im with ya on this one bud. Im going on # 3 myself but waiting for the 3rd to get to me and unsure when it will. I now wish I would have just gotten my money back instead of dealing with this bullcrap hassle. Verizons customer service really showed how bad they are when I had to deal with what I went through with my phones. I was tossed from store to store all over my county then customer service that I called gave me the run around and told me 3 or 4 different things from 3 or 4 different reps. From my experience it sounds like Verizons customer service reps on the phone and the reps in the actual stores dont work together all that well and dont know what the hell their doing.

To get subsidized pricing its every 10 months on a 1 year contract.

Can you refer me to where it says you can upgrade with subsidized pricing every year on anything other than a 1 year contract?

I have until July 1 to return my Inc. If the X is announced on June 23 and it's available for pre-order that day, I may just return the Inc and get a cheap phone to tide me over.

If you had a 2 year contract, I'd point you to your own account online with Verizon, where it shows how much time you have until you are eligible to upgrade at 2 year pricing. For me - it's 10 months (got the phone at the end of April)

If you have a 2 year contract, you can upgrade your phone at 2 year pricing after 12 months if you sign a new 2 year contract. The 2 year contract is effective the date of your new phone. In other words, my current contract is due to expire in April of 2012. Next year in April - if I choose to upgrade my phone and sign up for another 2 year contract - it will expire in April 2013. It doesn't ADD 2 years to the year you have left - it simply starts a new 2 year contract.

I've been doing this for the past few years - and since I've been with Verizon since 1996 and am not planning on changing carriers, it's a no brainer for me.

Were you talking to me or the OP? I've had my Droid for five months now and I'm eligible to upgrade in January so the new 2GHz Droid will be out by then. I'll definitely look into it if I decide to upgrade then.

There is an additional fee but sometimes reps can waive it. The fee is $18.

repost: Anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks I didn't know that. So say if your phone breaks at 1year and 1 month, it will obviously cost a lot to buy a new refurb to replace it, so can you just sign up for a new 2 year contract and pay $199 for a new phone plus the $18 fee? Or does the phone cost you full price? Thanks again for the help

My guess would be full price, but I carry the full insurance and it extends the factory warr. to two years. But if you get a nice csr they would try to help you out. Only a opinion.

As bad as I hate to say this, but that's freakin pathetic. Who gives a flying rats butt about what someone thinks about your device. You should buy devices for what you need or want it to do not what other people think about it. With that kind of thinking you might as well jump over with the iTards and get version 4.....

You dump a phone because someone think it looks like an iPhone.
You dump a phone because since someone thinks it looks like an iPhone you deem it a chic phone.
You dump a phone because people can't tell the difference between what you have an anyone else has.

I don't understand.

the iphone is a chick phone. I dont really care what people think. never have. If I cared what people think I wouldn't be on an Inc subforum stating the X's advantages, as I'm aware whatever I say will fall on deaf ears.

What I do care about is misperception. Let me state it more clearly; "I hate apple products with a passion."

Analogy:

A Muslim man who wears a white hat, taqiyah, suddenly orders a new hat from the internet. When it arrives he discovers that the hat is exactly like a Yarmulke. when he walks out of the house all his muslim friends make fun of him for wearing a Jewish hat. Even the Jewish people he meets question his loyalty for the Islamic faith.

It appears this man, a proud muslim, is forced to endure a perception that he is uncomfortable with. Being perceived as a jew. That goes against his moral foundation and he would like nothing better then to rid himself of his jewish looking hat.

Sorry for the religious analogy but it was the best way for me to explain why I can't carry around an iphone like device.

I agree Qazme....who cares what others think?
My win mobile phone looked like a bb and I would get asked all the time.....I used to say no its windows mobile,

Did you hate blackberry and their users?

I too had a samsung blackjack phone. I didnt mind the bb rip off design as I wanted to feel as though I was using a bb.

the fact that I hate the iphone however can not allow me to have an iphone look alike.

I prefer being different and want Android to differentiate itself from the market.

If I want the most practical phone, and still the best on the market, get the Incredible.

If I wanted an iPad, I wouldn't settle on an imitation Droid X.

You realize your opinion will be in the minority.

Also the X is much smaller then a tablet.

Doesn't matter what I say though because afterwards you will go back to say the X is a tablet.

I'll probably be selling my Inc on craigslist or Ebay to get some cash to put towards the Droid X. If Verizon wasnt so god damn stubborn and given back my money as I requested when I went into the store on the day of my 30 day warranty from them I wouldnt have to worry about selling it but now I do. My bad experiences with Verizon has left a sour taste in my mouth and dont intend on doing business with them much longer if it keeps up.

Let us know how much the DI sold for on ebay.

Lol you realize that the devour was a midrange device, correct? The devour is to the eris as the droid is to Incredible.

if you had just purchased the higher end device(droid) in the beginning then maybe your experience with Moto would've been better.

You are correct. It is just your opinion. There are many of us looking forward to bigger screens.

There will be an emphasis placed on greater battery management and also providing the customer with the form factor/specs he desires. At this time however I think it's prudent for Moto to explore the market for larger screen devices as there certainly is a large market for them.

Also why did you buy the Q? That had fail written all over it before it was even launched.

I feel more and more everyday that I will abandon waiting for Dinc for the X. That screen... so sexy!

Plus look at the speed!(I believe phone this SS is from is Evo)

Now imagine if it had 2.2!

So, did the press conference sway anybody's decision?

The idea of having a larger screen is becoming more and more appealing to me, but the event didn't reveal anything mind-blowing. No Flash at launch, no Froyo at launch, extra cost for WiFi tethering...

Are they coming out with a three g version.....?

Doh. My bad. I got it confused with the ipad again.

Im waiting to pass judgement untill I see it in person and use it for awhile first.

Same here. I will have roughly 2 weeks to mess with my DInc and then 2 weeks to play with the X in the store before my 30 day trial is up. I played with the Evo and it was real nice, just big. I am very intrigued by the 720P vid and the slow-mo playback. Pretty sweet. My decision may be based on whether or not I can fit the X in my pocket! Sounds trivial but I need to put it somewhere. (Please no comments on that last part.) :p
