Hey guys,

I'm going to buy a moto g 2013 real soon but I want to know something very important. On the 4g version, there is 8gb on board storage and microSD expandable storage, and on the non LTE versions with 8gb or 16gb inbuilt storage only.

Now I want to buy the 4G LTE version as there is expandable storage available, but then i got thinking there is only 8gb inbuilt storage available with only about 5gb to use. Now, this is the question, does the latest OS version 4.4.4 support apps being downloaded on the sd card? or when lollipop(i think its out already, I'm not too sure) is on the device does that support apps being downloaded to the SD card? which then the LTE variant would be ideal, but if it doesnt support it then maybe the 16gb non LTE version would be better? and if I need any extra space for my music, and many PDF's and what not I could resort to USB OTG.

Does latest version of kitkat or lollipop support apps being downloaded on SD cards?

Thanks

You'll have some problems trying to install apps in the SD card. If you use lots of apps or heavy games you should consider the 16gb version. If you like having a lot of music or any media files stored in your phone the SD card will be handy.

My wife's got the 8 gb Moto G and she's already complaining about the lack of space. It goes quickly.

To compliment Javier's answer, yes, you can, in theory, install apps to SD Card. BUT that's not the whole story.

It's up to each developer to decide what, if any part of the app, can be moved to SD card. Some allow external downlods, some game saves, some extra files, some none at all. Two things to bear in mind too is that the main app file will ALWAYS reside in your internal memory (that can't be moved) and that when you download or update an app, those files are downloaded to your internal memory first.

That being said, 8GB will probably not last a lot these days.

You can root your phone and install hacks to make your phone think the SD card is part of your internal memory, but I strongly advice against installing apps on SD cards. They're not reliable, and should you unmount your card at any point, it will wreak havoc on your shortcuts, widgets, cache, etc. (essentially the phone won't be able to find the apps at boot)

I'm sad. This is not good news. Added on to the fact that a 16gb non 4g version is very rare to find, its not availble to buy anywhere :(

Yep. The Moto G 2013 has been my main phone for the last year and a half and it's a great little phone. But It's a bit difficult to find in some places. For almost the same price you could try the 2014 model. There are not many phones in the market with those specs and price. Specially for me that I need a dual SIM device.

Might be time to consider a different phone, perhaps...

noooooo. I currently have a moto x 1st gen but I'm returning it back to the seller as the microphone is faulty, but it is an absolutely great phone, wonderful, does everything I need and does it fast. But what I have realised is that I don't need this particular device for what I do with a smartphone, a moto g or another decent low end android phone could do it for me, so either I spend £169.99 on a new moto x or £111 on a moto g 1st gen 4g LTE, plus £15 on the flip shell and I'm still going to be able to do what I want and save abit of money :D

And I don't want a large phone, no bigger dimensions than the moto g, I don't need/want a large screen device.

The 2014 model is too big for me, I like moto g/moto x(both 1st gen) size/shape
