Welcome to Android Central. It's easy as all get up. Just follow the instructions. Have you already done some reading and know what method you are going to use?

I'm reading now... I usually read a little each day haha!
Honestly, I'm a bit overwhelmed.

The "Veruca Salt" in me wants it NOW! :)

Okay. *deep breath, jam*

So the first thing I'll do it get Titanium backup and backup everything.
Correct?

Second thing I'll do is gain root access... using the "one click method."
Correct?

In order to do titanium backup you'll need to root. So yes, use the one click method if you want FIRST and then download and install titanium backup and back everything up. Then head over to the [Odin] Full eb01/eb16 leak thread, follow those directions and you should be golden

ooohahhh.

Golden. I like that.
Thank you.

So is there a "better" way than the one click root method, for someone like me, I mean. :)

Yes. You can use MyBackupPro to do the same thing as Titanium Backup and you don't have to be rooted first. Use that, then back up your contacts, then you can head over to DroidXcon's thread http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ged-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-10-a.html and use the package that wiped data (EB16SC29_DXC.tar) Follow the steps and you will be rooted and have what I feel is the best version of Froyo for us right now in less than probably 20 minutes.

Hmmm I believe it's the most newb-friendly method to gain root access. I personally used it myself so I can't tell you what the other methods were like, sorry. And the only purpose of rooting right now is to get a backup, as once you get the froyo package from droidxcon working, you'll be rooted already

I really like the idea of backing up before I root.

20 minutes, you say? That's so fast!

You can thank DroidXcon for putting the packages together. Also when you use his method, after you use ODIN and you get the green PASS! message in ODIN, close ODIN, pull the usb cord from the phone, open ODIN back up, follow the same step about holding the volume down button while reconnecting usb to phone, then flash this file MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (which you should download to your computer now) through ODIN. Then whenever you boot to recovery (which you may need later and is completely explained here http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...-clockworkmod-recovery-w-screen-captures.html) you will boot directly to the correct cwm-all

Okay, Lando.
That all sounds like total Greek to me, but I'm just going to follow the directions from you and DroidXcon step-by-step.
Hopefully I will respond back later with a big ole woot woot! <-- that's jampot for booyah! :)

Good luck and may the force be with you. I know we will all be with you, here to help if you need it.

Just to mention it, my backup pro can't back up stuff like text messages and app data (game saves) without root to the best of my knowledge.

My preferred noob friendly method is root first with one click, then back up.

So if I one click root first, then when I use MyBackupPro I can save the texts/games, etc? I just bought the backup app a few minutes ago.

My kids will kill me if I lose their Angry Birds progress. haha.

But it's a risk I'm willing to take. :)

I followed the directions I found on this site to root and then get froyo. It was super easy and I am very happy with my phone. Its definitely worth it and not as intimidating as it first appears.

Be aware, once you go down this path of rooting, you will get into flashing themes and roms and will get very addicting.

In a good way of course. :D

Yea and then you won't have anything else to flash

My phone restarts then the error.
