I just pointing out that several post have been deleted, threads locked, etc. I guess you could say some have issue with people keep the N7 so it becomes an all out nasty comment fight. I think everyone needs to keep calm so that we can have our discussions. I for one decided I would like to keep mine after yesterday with Samsung and their inability to explain why the fires started. Not to mention even the cpsc can't pinpoint the cause. I believe we need the open thread for those keeping the N7 in case someone actually does figure it out.
Absent a recall, would you have returned your Note 7 due to the reported issues?

Bottom line, the phone has been recalled. It will no longer be supported, and chances are, at some point either the carriers or Samsung will brick these devices. Be as stubborn as you like. If you don't return the phone, soon you will be the proud owner of a useless $800 device. Good luck with that.
If everyone is making comments in a civil and productive manner, discussion of almost everything is permitted. I have no intentions of closing the Note 7 section or making a list of things that it's okay and not okay to talk about - as long as it's legal and doesn't violate any forum rules. We are, as always, asking people to post in the correct forums and to search for existing threads on their topic prior to creating a new one, to keep language clean, avoid personal attacks against others, etc. - but as I have said elsewhere, we recognize this is a stressful situation and have been giving people a little bit more grace than normal on some lesser things.
A huge majority of moderators make most of their posts as just another nerd talking about nerdy stuff. We don't want to have to moderate non-stop because it's not actually that much fun, but we do have a job to do and that's to encourage healthy discussion and positive interactions. That's it.
If it isn't coming across that way, then we are wide open to suggestions for how we can do it better.
Well we can at least keep our cake. Might not be able to eat it, but it is a fine piece of art. For me it would make one heck of a nice paper weight or mp3 player if they kill the imei off.

Apparently you're not aware that a person can use a different device for travel....
If there wasn't a recall would you have returned your Note 7 or you returned it because you thought it was a hazard to yourself and others?
We ran out of space (there's a character limit) so I tried, "Absent a recall, would you have returned your Note 7 due to the reported issues?" Hopefully that basically says the same thing, but we can edit this question of yours in full into the beginning of the OP so everyone knows exactly what you're getting at.

A chance? The new units were popping up with stories like the old one. Samsung didn't want to wait and take a chance if they were true or not. It's about people's safety.
The reason I haven't returned mine is because while I'm not on the hook for the whole $900. Right now i am on the hook for the $200 i put down on the device at target where I bought it won't refund me and neither will Verizon. Not to mention everywhere is sold out of the s7 edge. Does anyone know when you buy a phone at Target on the payment plan and put a down payment on it who gets the money? Target or Verizon?

From what I've seen on here with cases like yours, calling up Samsung and giving them an earful about this might be your best bet. I think they're pretty desperate to get these phones out of people's hands, so they might be able to remedy the situation.
If the second recall was not issued and the airline restrictions were lifted, no I would not have returned the Note 7.
It's about Samsung's potential liability, not peoples' safety. Recall is a risk calculation question, not a feel-good exercise.

The argument of "I'm keeping it and I'm alone in assuming the risk" is only valid if one lives alone, works alone, and never goes anywhere or lived in a home without shared tenants or people around them - like stores, apartment buildings.
Unless that's you, you are choosing to risk everyone around you. Over something as stupid as a cell phone.
