April 2018 update...
1998 Sony CMZ 200, on GTE Mobile-net (predecessor to Verizon I think, very well made phone, fond memories)
2002 Motorola star-tac (to date BY FAR the most unreliable electronic device I have ever owned, despised every minute of it. I was missing at least 2-3 calls at random every week )
2003 Nokia 3589i (bomb-proof reliable, my first game-capable phone too, COLOR display!!! Woohoo!!)
2006 LG VX8300 (compact, reliable, durable, cheap batteries, plays video, MP3, and pictures too!!, one of my sons class-mates currently has one)
2011 LG Cosmos touch (an OK phone, nice keyboard for text messages, better camera than my predecessors, no video playback though. This phone was a crash course hard lesson in carrier bloat ware. Came with the STUPID Bing app, that would RANDOMLY at night light up my screen and play voice recordings, asking to join this or subscribe to that!!!. Maddening to say the least, made me feel like throwing it against the wall every night at 3AM. With no glass and all plastic construction it probably would have survived just fine.... shrug)
2013 iPhone 5C (my first smart phone. Not bad, Meeh... kind of boring. I replace the battery every year and I still use it as a trail-mapping GPS unit for hiking and backpacking)
May 2015 Sony Xperia Z3v (WOW!!! Killer phone for $39... 4K video, water resistance, good battery life, high-res screen too. Worst thing about it was the headphone audio volume limiter... Hated that)
June 2015 Back to the iPhone 5C (I destroyed the Xperia after 35 days)
Dec 2015 LG-V10 (Back on Android... YESSSS!!! My first flagship device ever.)
April 2018 I am still on the LGV10. Stock up on removable batteries, ~$10 each... good to go!! Paired with a UAG case its bomb proof. The phone itself has MIL-spec drop impact resistance, combine that with the MIL-spec rating of the UAG and its a GREAT setup. I am going for the record with this phone. Going to keep using it as long as I possibly can. It did boot loop a few months ago, but I have Verizon extended warranty so I am covered there.
