Accented characters issue

I have the HTC one m8

When I write using é à ò

These characters appear as : ?

Android users and iPhone users alike.
When I text them its a bunch of question marks.


Can anyone help?

I would try another keyboard. Either that, or the receiving device doesn't know what to do with those characters.
