Access card key attached to back of Pixel 2 XL

I had a Samsung phone and used double stick tape to attach the access card I need to move around my office building to the back of the phone. With the Pixel 2 XL my card won't work when stuck to the back of my phone.

Does the Pixel 2 XL have a back that allows the magnetic field from the device to effect my card? Anyone have ideas for a solution to this?

Do you have NFC enabled on your phone? It might be interfering with the card.

Settings -> Connected devices -> NFC
