Hello I bought an Xperia T2 Ultra (XM50H) in Beijing, China.

I have access to an app store that doesn't have the content I'm searching for.

Do you I need to unlock my phone in order to access the Google Play Store?

Or do I need to root the phone?

I'm new to this...

Yes you need to root your device unlock your phone in order to access the Google Play store, because I am sure you are aware of the fact that Google services are blocked in china.
