Just letting everyone know how a USB Jig works and what it can do! It will reset your Odin Counter as well as give you the stock splash screen! The one I bought was 2 dollars on ebay. (link in description of video, be sure to thumbs up the vid )

Does the dongle remove a custom recovery or does it just recent the download screen to show official recovery?

No all it does is reset your binary counter and change the splash screen. It doesn't touch recovery.
