This morning I restarted my phone and the sd card came up as unsupported and wanted me to format it to make it work. Why would this happen? It has been fine for the last few months I've had the phone. I don't want to loose my photos on it. What can I do to save the stuff on the card?

Use a PC and SD card reader and move everything to PC.

Also more then likely the SD card is going out.

Use more than one backup methods. Cloud storage will automatically upload photos usually free. OneDrive, Google Drive, Amazon for a start. Redundancy.

Even disk drives will fail, not if, but when.

Like @jacker said. Try reading the card in your computer. If it's readable, then copy the important stuff and reformat the card.

What brand of card and size?
