Add-ons and fixes for Sprint 2.1 Hero leak

Inside the zip file is an .apk file. Copy that .apk to your sd card.

Download a file browser from the market. I use and recommend Astro, but there's a lot of choices and all are good.

Find it, and click to install it.

The market fix allows all paid and protected apps to show up in the market. It fixes the signature of the OS by changing it to the one from the N1 - one that Google knows and understands vs. some crazy Sprint testing signature.

just a fyi for Mac users, for some reason I wasn't able to install the wireless tether using a mac - have no idea why, even when I renamed it .atk. I used Parallels and downloaded to a PC desktop then transfered it and it worked great. Maybe Mac's have some issue with the .atk extension.

Its not supposed to be .atk, its supposed to be .apk
Just copy and paste it onto your sd card then use a file manager to install it.

All,
I think I've got my battery problem fixed I downloaded JuiceDefender from Android Market and it seems to have done the trick. But I still can't get the wireless tether to work. I'm able to connect my pc to the phone but can't connect to the internet through the phone any ideas?

Thanks

I've used pre 7 and it worked via toggling airplane mode after starting the app and connecting the computer. 1.6 works without a hitch, used it today on a trip. I'm using a macbook... so I dunno if this has any effect on the outcome.

Thanks rufflez that seems to have done the trick I got the pre10 to work using the airplane toggle and it will even allow multiple tethers thanks for the help!!!

Wow im on opera browser on my hero rite now & i just downloaded the 3d gallery zip straight too my sd card. Exciting

sweet, good to know! could be added to the tips and tricks if you want. Seriously, you can do everything without a computer (technically, you can root the phone without one too ;))

That's crazy. Is it complicated?

not really just got to the market from your android device go to search and look for rom manager there are two parts to this app the free is the main part but the second is the paid part that allows you to download the roms and flash them to you device but always remember to do a back up there is one in the app but i would still run a nandroid and the app back up just incase

Actually, the other method is called the flashrec method. You can unroot by doing a backwards version of this with a copy of the unrooted ROM (which when you make a backup in recovery, its rooted) so the RUU had to be released before anyone could do it this way.
If you're going to do anything useful though, like remove sprint bloatware, I recommend the SDK way, cause itll be needed to remove just the ones you want.

Here's more info on flashrec:
FlashRec method

While they use a computer, it can all be done with a file manager like linda file manager, the stock browser on 1.5.

If you've rooted, this means nothing. There is nothing to see here, more of a learning experience for the curious :)

In all of this is what i call "Reverse Flashrec" Its not really, but uses someones flashrec backup to get back to normal.
