How do I go about adding music and movies? Do I need to transfer them to the SD Card, and then insert that into the Droid, or is there a way to load it directly to the card through the Droid?

Just use the wire that came with your Droid to load it up as a drive. Once in the drive, create a new folders like this:

Media

In that folder create:

Audio

In that folder create:

Alarms
Notifications
Ringtones
Music

Now you can freely drag and drop whatever you want into those folders.

After using something like handbrake to convert video files to H.264 (MP4) format you can then drag and drop the file directly to the Droid's mounted drive. Android OS will figure out the rest and place the files in appropriate folders. In fact, the droid will read any media that is placed into any folder within the Droid's file structure, so long as it is file format the phone recognizes.

What settings did you use when using Handbreak? I have never used the program before and just found it when I was searching on how to upload videos to my Droid. I tried a lot of settings and finally got both video and sound by using:
WxH 480x272, MP4 File format, H.264(x264), FPS 24, AvgBitRate 512

and for audio using AAC, DolbyProLogicII, 44.1KHz, 128 Bitrate

I feel like I can use higher quality settings (like a higher video Avgbitrate) for a better video but am not sure what to use. Sorry for all the info, like I said I'm a noob and am not sure which fields are relevant and which are not. If someone could help me optimize my videos I would be grateful.

Wow. this was really helpful. thanks a ton. It does take a LONG time to move music though. i did something like 6 gb and it took about 25 minutes or so.
