Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

this is already my replacement S6 that I got last monday thinking my first had a battery lemon I exchanged it... I wish the Note 5 was out already to try that, although whose to say it won't be plagued with similar bugs.

Sorry but it seems you have bad luck, this one is definitely damaged. Return it and I'd understand if you don't want to try again.

Hi and thanks for posting. I agree with all of your advices and I search also to "optimize" my S6.
I have a question, I had an S3 before, than a Z3 compact and last week I bought my S6.
What shocks me is that it's warming a lot, like when I am on the internet with lower brightness (15%) my battery is always at 34°C and CPU at 50.
I put it in to charge, than battery is 38 and CPU around 78-80°C.
Is this normal to you?
I can feel the heat through the fingers when I am holding the phone and it's pretty disappointing.
Thank you for the feedback!
P.S. (Samsung S6 "blue topaz" should be called "green topaz" because when your looking straight at the phone it's green not blue - dissapointed for this also...)

I myself am waiting for the S7. If the battery size is still the same as the S6 I won't be getting it. The S6 should have had the battery that is in the active to begin with. Even the Samsung representative I spoke to on the phone a couple of days ago agreed it probably wasn't the best idea to put a battery that small into a phone with a quad hd display

I posted this in the S6E forum already, but my problem appears to be Spotify. I incorporated most of the tips in this thread, then uninstalled Spotify to see what would happen (I subscribe to their premium service). Battery fully charged at bedtime, left off charger, only lost a few % overnight, so I was ecstatic.

Battery drain appeared normal this morning (listened to Beats at 5 am for a bit), until I put Spotify back on at about 6:20 am, and the battery drain I've been seeing since I got this phone (and I've replaced it once, done multiple factory resets, etc.) came right back. See the graph below.

So I uninstalled Spotify once again, and things seem to be good.

Has anyone seem similar that they can attribute solely to Spotify? Is the best option to ditch Spotify altogether and move to a different service?

This is interesting. I use spotify and I could try and uninstall it and test. I am pretty heavily invested in it though so I don't know if I can assimilate to a different service

I use Spotify free, had to delete it from my S6 as it was heavily draining my battery without usage. Upwards of 10%, equivalent to about 2 hours of SOT. So now I'm sticking to just using it on my computer and tablet. Google play services is still my No.1 battery offender.

Erasat I know you had the Indian firmware downloaded on one of your S6 devices. My phone just started downloading a software update. I was wondering if you also got this software update or know what it is for

Sorry, but I don't have the S6 anymore, I sold it last week, I decided to keep the S6 active and sold the S6 last week.

But it should be the Stagefright fix that has been rolling out for latest Samsung flagships since last week.

The new update got rid of the auto stop feature -__-

I really wish right now that I could figure out how to go back to Telstra software. There's no point to the Indian software anymore now they've gotten rid of that

I swear I'll never understand those fools, you'd expect things like that from a carrier's device not the Unlocked ones, and T-Mobile variants already have the latest version and they still have all features.

About going back to Telstra I think that safest bet is to wait for Telstra to finally releases the 5.1.1 version and then you can download it and flash it just like you did with the Indian one.

What I don't understand is that the version came out with the auto stop feature yet a small update of only 256mb got rid of it. Like are you kidding me?

According to Telstra "5.1" is in testing for the S6 and is expected to be deployed the end of August. I'm trying to get confirmation on whether it is 5.1 or 5.1.1 because that makes no sense to me

I was just looking into the app 'package disabler' https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...om.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&token=kXQHdk0k

It allows you to disable apps and services without root, has anybody used this successfully?

dreaming of electric sheep

I just downloaded it today. I've disabled A LOT of services but I'm not sure how much it's going to do for my battery. I will fully charge and then unplug when I sleep to see if it helped standby time

I read on a post about Tesla potentially draining the battery so I went in and switched off the Notification Bar Watcher option just to see if there was any difference in battery drain. I usually get just 3.5 hours SOT but after turning the watcher off, I got over 5 hours with similar use.
I have never gotten anywhere close to 5 hours of SOT...ever....so I'm going to keep that notification watcher off.

Just got confirmation from Telstra updating team that the update coming out for the S6 IS in fact 5.1.1. It is currently in testing since the 7th of August and is expected to start deploying on August 31

I got another day with 5 hours of SOT by not using Tesla.

I just deleted Tesla completely and left the badge counter off.

Posted from my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Last year when I decided to pay for Nova Prime just to have the Unread badges and themes, I had the drain also, after I read somewhere that tesla may be the culprit I decided to delete it and the drain was gone.

When I switched to the S6 I gave it a try again, and I couldn't see any difference on battery life with it on so i decided to kept it there, I really have good battery life, so maybe if I remove it and turn the Unread badges off I may get even greater battery life, but with what I have is more than enough so haven't really even think about remove this, but yes, it happened to me in the past and there are a lot of other people that have posted about the same so I think it should be related to the settings on it, amount of Gmail and email accounts it searches for and maybe amount of Whatsapp and messages received.

I've been bothered lately for the Facebook badges showing 2 when I get 1 notification and the 999+ unread count everytime I get an SMS (it keeps doing that no matter the combination of settings I use) so yes, I may be at a point where I can easily just remove it and forget about it, so if I do it I'll let you know if I notice better battery life than before.
