Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

Very happy now. Used most of the suggestions here. BIggest change was with diasabling LTE on my AT&T phone, though the Samsung software updates happened automatically about the same time. Have Location Services off most of the time. Brightness is on auto, but nominally 30%.

My brightness is always at like 10%, and even with power saving mode on I still only get like 5 hours! Is there anything else you have done? I also have at&t and I disabled the LTE

Have you done a factory reset?

I've done the factory reset/wipe from the recovery. It helped me. I made sure I had the latest update. Then I did the factory reset/wipe. Simple and I didn't mind redownloading all of my apps as I don't have many.

I haven't done anything that's not mentioned in this thread.

But I did mention this in the first paragraph that I talked about the recommendations, so did you reset it or not, or at least did the Wipe Cache Partition?

One thing to point out. For Verizon users, it seems that having advanced calling (VoLTE) on is supposed to help with battery life. The recommendation was to Turn on advanced calling and do a cache clear (or factory reset, preferably).

I may have found a potential battery draining "bug". Go to Settings- Lock screen and security- Other security settings- Security policy updates- and turn off these options. I've been getting a little better battery and stand by times as well. Also posted this on XDA forums. Hope this helps...

This will become annoying in a couple of days when the device try to update this Security policies and will begin showing Pop-up windows asking you to update it. It may be or may be not related but if it works as it has always worked it just connects once a week or something like that to update those policies.

Is this something that Galaxy S phones have had for a while? I haven't had a Galaxy phone since Galaxy S2...

Hi erasat, what about the post above that said Verizon users should turn on advanced calling? Do you think that would do as it was stated? I've been on the fence about activating it, not sure if it would save battery life or not. And not knowing how hard it would be to turn off if I don't like it, or if it didn't slow down battery drain.

Yes, I've seen that in the past, I think it began and it's related to the Knox Security feature.

I can't really help with anything related to Verizon as I don't even have Verizon here in Puerto Rico. I have never had a Sprint phone, service here is not too good. I know that AT&T and T-mobile phones are very similar in those aspects, so I'm more experienced with just those 2.

See this thread on XDA-Developers. Several posters have mentioned it:

Also, with Verizon, you will need to turn on advanced calling if you want to talk and surf at the same time.

Have you tried disabling this option on this phone yet?

No, because last time I tried that with one of my recent Samsung phones, don't remember if it was S4, S5 or Note 4 I had the annoying pop-ups I told you about.

Now with the S6 Edge I'm getting great battery life, better than expected, so besides the tweaks I've mentioned here I haven't tried anything else.

The reset definitely worked for me

Really glad there's people here who are taking this advice and seeing better battery life. I still think there's some people here who aren't being entirely truthful about their "poor battery life", though. I've seen people claim they could almost kill their battery in 4-5 hours (no screens, of course). Some people just want to hop on the bandwagon even when the bandwagon is a fallacy.
