Adoptable vs. Portable Storage on HTC 10

Would be interested in knowing what others are doing as far as their external sd card goes. I tried adoptable storage and changed my mind. I plan to have some large movie and video files that I will need to easily be able to transfer from phone to computer from time to time.
Anyway, I found this excellent guide from Motorola for Android 6.0 that might help others trying to make the same decision.

While your computer cannot natively read an SD card formatted as adorable (or adoptable) storage, you can still transfer media between the two using a USB cable.

Adoptable storage "encodes" it to the device so its not swappable between devices but readable between devices in a mounted status. IE as thejesse stated above.
