Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Both of which run completely different chipsets. Optimized for changes in the OS framework and optimized for the specific chipset aren't the same thing. It all goes back to the software being optimized for hardware, and in some cases software being optimized for software (which is why the Note 2 can score higher than phones with much faster chipsets in benchmarks).
Compared to Exynos yes the S4 is mindblowing. Talk to me again in a year or so. Exynos from the Note 2 won't be in any device that could be considered even remotely high-end. The S4 Pro, OTOH, will be in plenty. Along with Exynos 5xxx and Tegra 4 (or whatever nVidia will call it).
It's been about half a year+ and the Note 2 is still owning it up in games, it's CPU is still high end, it's a great phone that is even better then the Galaxy S4.
So you were wrong man. The Note 2's display is even beating or just as good if not better then the phone being released now.
The Note 3 is coming out in a few weeks. I don't know about it though. The display might be pentile. If that's so then I'll wait about 9 or 10 months for the Note 4.
I plan on it anyway. As the Note 2 is amazing still. And even with the HTC One, LG OG Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S4. The Note 2 is still on top.
The Note 3 will be a upgrade for those that don't have a Note 2. If you have a Note 2, you would be better off waiting for the Note 4.
Though we will have to see the final product. The Note 3 could turn out to be great. It just suck's the Note 2 hasn't received the update it was promised, and was supposed to be released in July. Samsung basically pushed the Note 2 off to the side. I mean really... What would stop Samsung from doing the same with the Note 3.
But consumer's will do what they do and Samsung's marketing is very good. It's allot of BS but for the average person that doesn't know better. They can easily think this new feature is something they can't live without yet the Note 2 will get the same features...
I'm just really wondering what type of display it will have. If it's the same as the Note 2's that would be amazing. The other thing is battery life. It's too bad we aren't getting the new Octa-Core processor. I would much rather have better battery life then a CPU that just has higher benchmark scores and no real world difference.
But I'm sure the US version Note 3 will have at least a little longer battery life. But the deal breaker will be the display. As I said before, if it's a pentile display like the S4 and S3's that would force me to wait for the Note 4 as I'm already most likely going to do.
Just because that's when we will see some real big jumps in phone technology. Right now it's hovering around the same area. But it's a good area. Like the Motorola Moto X, it's dual core CPU is almost as good as the high end phone's out right now. The benchmark is very good for a dual core. But benchmarks really don't mean anything. And it's been shown that they can be totally wrong when it comes to real world performance. The best way to benchmark is use multiple benchmark app's and even then it can be wrong or be very right. I've found them to be somewhat right. But there are just do many factor's...
Like a mid range device or high range device. I've seen mid range device's run smooth as can be run games great and show no signs of lag. Then I'll use a high end device like the S4 for example, it was a friends and it was a laggy phone. Very laggy.. My Note 2 runs so smooth compared to it. I couldn't believe it. Start up, games. Everything ran better and much smoother.
It was his second S4 since he returned the first one. So I'm guessing it's an issue with hardware/software not getting along.
So this is why some phones last for years and keep up with newer devices while others don't..
Like the Note 2 it's a damn great phone and will be for a long time to come. It was made with such great components, it's just perfect. Like the display. It's the best you can get right now. I'm hoping the Note 3 will be the same.
