I'm not sure what app is causing. I expect it when I'm backing out of Facebook or something but this but sometimes when I'm backing out of Gmail and right now just happened when I was making a phone call. Any way to find out which app is causing this?

UcBrowser, or a chinese browser installed in your device.

This is traditional chinese apps, undetectable process.

I deleted app that weren't download on Google play and it's not working.

I am sure, is a chinese app, like kingroot, ucbrowser, any chinese news app, i remember when i installed ucbrowser, my ram filled up, without ucbrowser running, is a "new kind of dalvik named multidex": your app is fully closed, stopped but the dalviks are running and androed does not handle "pidof dalvik processes"

I have done a factory reset and still have the Adds! I'm not happy to get bombarded with adverts for just using my Phone! Even time I unlock or close an app there is an Advert! I have had android for years and have never had this before FIX IT

Maybe a certain app you are installing is causing the ads. Try using it before installing apps, and see if it does it. If it doesn't, then slowly install apps. This way you can figure out which one is causing the ads.

Very likely you have a rogue app that was very likely side loaded and is very likely being restored upon reset of device. Popup Ads are built into apps that act as a Trojan and run as a background service.

Hard reset and do not restore. Add one by one until you find the crooked Clinton app.

Cheers

I started experiencing these random rogue ads a few weeks ago on my Moto X Pure Edition phone that I've been using for over a year. Both my kids have the same phone with the same version of Android and no ads. I don't recall installing any new app prior to the ads appearing. They would pop up at random times, sometimes just when I turned the screen on. Some of them were video/animated ads with a loud soundtrack - horrible! Here are things I tried that did NOT work:

  • installing and running Malwarebytes and Norton Security (they did not find any problems);
  • Deleting a whole bunch of apps, gradually, but not all of them;
  • Turning off notifications for most apps;
  • Deleting videos and other files I had downloaded;
  • Disabling Chrome (someone in this thread suggested clearing Chrome); and
  • Doing a cache partition wipe (twice).
Finally, about two weeks ago, I backed up my data and did a factory reset. I restored my text messages, contacts, and account settings, but did not do a full automatic restore of everything (I keep photos and other files on an SD card). I've only installed some key apps that I considered to be reputable. So far there has been no recurrence of the ads. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Doing a reset is a PITA, but those ads were driving me nuts! I will slowly re-install other apps I use and watch for any return of ads.

Only install apps from the Google Play Store, or Amazon App Store (though I think Amazon has far looser oversight of app developers), and don't install "cute" apps that you don't really need.

I can't fathom given how "tight" Android is why it's so hard -- actually not even possible -- to identify what app is throwing up full screen pop-ups, animated and video ads. It shouldn't require a factory reset... which still tells you nothing about which app is the problem and to avoid. In other words, there's no solution.

There should be a way to catch and trace the process.

Really? This really, really sucks.

Hi i randomly found this site on my G5 using chrome while i was searching for answers about my phone and just like a few of you i as well get multiple full screen adds and even opens up google play store at times.
My question is what are the best programs to use on melware n anti virus for our G5's. I recently installed the paid avg anti virus but that only stopped some of the full screen apps so i need to find a paid internet security program that will hopefully stop it.

Believe me all of you download this free anti-virus called "malwarebytes"

It will scan your whole android and find the problem

Malwarebytes worked wonderfully for me!
Thanks David Spaho!
I downloaded a pdf file for mechanic diagram and I forgot about it and that was the malware, a couple days later Surprise! Pop up ads all over the place and I just couldn't understand. I was 2 steps away from a factory reset! Malwarebytes deleted 2 malware files in a flash, anti-virus apps did not find the culprit!

I have tried all the things written above, but I have com up with a solution that doesn't involve any simply because they didn't work.
These random pop ups can be caused by either:
a) com.android.comp.download which is a shady service that runs in the background
b) an app called QuickSearch that has an icon similar to Google's.
To get rid of those, go to Settings -> Apps -> All Apps and look for the aforementioned apps. When you get there Clear Cache then Force Stop then disable the app. It should fix the problem.
After that clear the cache of your browser and run a trustworthy cleaner (such as Norton's).
This should make you feel like you did some spring cleaning. Let me know if it works for you.

Either factory reset your phone, or get a good malware/anti-virus app.

So this is also currently happening to me. It didn't start till after I factory reset my phone to make room because my phone no longer had any space and was acting up. I downloaded only apps I was using before. When I tried a top malware removal, it only shows one of my apps as being risky but this app did not cause this issue before the factory reset? The only differences to my phone are the reset, the new Verizon update, and I used a different background theme than I did before

Hi there! Try something that i did and seems that there are no more pop ups on my phone. Settings ----> apps ----> Chrome ----> Notifications and block them!
