Photos

I'm talking about the physical directory or folder on the phone's storage (much like a folder you'd see in Windows Explorer on a PC). Using the My Files app, tap Internal Storage, then Pictures, then Messages, to see if the downloaded images from Google Messages are there.

Yes the photo from messages saves there.

When testing on my Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, any image I download from Google Messages immediately shows up in the Samsung Gallery app. It's odd that this isn't happening for you.

What file format is the photo? JPG? PNG? Something else?

Also, try clearing the app cache and data for the Gallery app in Settings>Apps, then Force Stop it, and then open it again. (Your photos will be safe, since the app data for the Gallery does not include the actual photos.)

I just tested one texted from iPhone, it is heic.

Ok, HEIC and JPG should definitely show up in Gallery.

Is your Gallery app fully up to date? Open your Samsung Galaxy Store app and see if there are any app updates.

Also, in Gallery, don't look in the Photos section -- that just consolidates photos from all directories into one section. Look in the Internal Storage section, and then Pictures>Messages. Are the downloaded image files there?

To clarify for the OP, that will be found in My Files>Images as in my example.
