Advice wanted on setting up Android tablet for a child

Hi all,

With Christmas just around the corner, I've purchased a tablet for my 7 year old son as he's starting to get interested in computing, using my tablet for school research, playing a few games (Minecraft!!) etc....

I've purchased an Acer Iconia One 10 inch, which is running 5.1.

My concern, having not been an Android user for long (and never had an Android tablet), is how to 'lock-down' aspects of the system, such as what apps he can install, monitoring / blocking web activity etc.

If anyone can offer any advice on setting up an Android tablet for keeping children safe, it would be much appreciated.

Does that tablet have the ability to set up different user profiles? I would do that, having your account as the primary with a different (restricted) profile for your son. Typically, the main account would be the one installing apps, then making selected ones available to the restricted account.

Are you kidding. I could use a 7 year old to show me how to use this thing. They are the only ones that know how to operate them.
