After 5.1.1 heat and performance issues persist while web surfing

Figured I would ask here since general Google searches haven't given me any ideas on how to fix this.

I have a Nexus 9 32GB Wifi model. Right after I got it the 5.1.1 update dropped, so I enabled the developer tools in order to side load the image. Currently running build number LMY47X.

There's only two things that really make the processor on this thing start cooking: a Hangouts video chat and surfing the internet. I've tried Firefox, Firefox Beta, and stock Chrome and no matter the web browser the processor will heat up. Along with the heat it will get laggy, and eventually when I hit the home button it will hesitate and then redraw the home screen. Once I've gone back to the home screen, the tablet will cool off in short order.

Any fix for this? A known issue? I really like most everything about this tablet, reading on it is much more enjoyable than on the N7. I just wish I could surf the web a little without bringing the thing to its knees.

This is a reported (as opposed to known?) issue. Some XDA members say Chrome Beta works cooler than Chrome. Others say Firefox. Mine does heat up browsing-especially around camera corner. I use Chrome Beta (caution: the very latest edition caused severe battery drain for me). I've only used hangouts video chat once but wasn't holding the tablet so didn't notice. I have 32gb running stock but with elemental x kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/orig-development/kernel-elementalx-n9-0-02-alpha-t2931657) to improve speeds as it is laggy especially returning to homes screen. Still laggy more than I think it should be. I can't say the heat is "bringing it to its knees," though.
I agree about reading. I've had both N7's, but they couldn't keep up with my aging eyes. I just wish this tab would perform like the N5.

Hey rhea thanks for the info, I downloaded and tried Chrome Beta and it runs cooler than anything I've tried so far, and it seems to work pretty well to boot. I also had heard that the Facebook and FB Messenger apps were really bad for battery life. I didn't believe it at first, until I removed them from my phone and my Nexus 9. Holy crap what an improvement! Anyway, looks like I can at least surf the web now without heat and lag. Thanks.
