After Android 9 update, how do you get notifications on the lock screen?

After the new update the other day my notifications don't appear on my lock screen, instead there's a notification bubble that's basically the same thing as notifications from the task bar. I have to click on that in order to see my notifications, I don't really understand why there's an extra step now and it's really annoying if you're just checking what that last alert was for.

I looked throughout the settings but don't see anything anymore regarding hiding or showing content on the lock screen. Anyone solve this problem already?
