After exiting Private mode, "hidden" objects remain visible

On my S4 Mini (Kitkat 4.4.4) I have "hidden" several pictures etc. with Private mode.
When I run Private mode, these objects become visible - great! But when I exit Private mode, they still are visible and accessible in Gallery (but not through My files). I need to restart my phone in order to hide them again.

Is that really how it's supposed to be? Is there any work around so that I don't need to restart my phone every time?

No. They remain hidden usually. Make sure private mode is off by pulling the quick settings menu down and touching the padlock icon (if it's highlighted). Or you can set private mode to turn off once the screen his to sleep...

Well, thanks, but my problem IS that when I turn Private mode off, things that are supposed to become invisible remain visible. I am positive I have turned Private mode off.

Ok, two factory resets later, "hidden" items now disappear right after I turn Private mode off. Just as it should be. No need to restart the phone anymore.

The first factory reset did not help this issue, the second one did.
