After GB, I'm permanently Low on Space

I had about 90MB left after GB update. Now, it is down to 57MB. I have no idea what is using up the memory. I didn't install any new apps that are more than 1MB lately.

EDIT: I went thru Settings -> Application -> Manage Applications -> All -> I found that Facebook for HTC Sense used up 30 MB of space. I don't even use Facebook for HTC Sense and not sure how it grew so big. I cleared the data and now it back to 90+MB.

What is everyone's dialer storage size and stock mail app size?

I keep erasing apps to get up above 10% free on phone and the next day, it goes back down to below 9%. WTF? IDK whats going on here. Anyone having similar problems? It was fine before the GB update.

Thanks

hey everyone!

just wanted to chime in about how things were, i think, fixed with low memory issues on my evo.

so i backed up my phone and started deleting data via manager applications in settings.

facebook - done
netflix - done (strangely i uninstalled this app a while ago but it still appeared so i cleared the data and deleted the app)
contacts storage - done (then backed up - when clearing data your numbers remain just all your photos get deleted)
maps - done
and so on and so on...
now i have 112mb of free internal.

ALSO!!!
the big kicker for me was this...
so i think there is a bug for peeps that update to GB.

and that bug is HTC SENSE.
htc sense was reporting 17MB
I cleared the data and was reverted to the default home screen.
i went to my titanium back up and restored just the data for htc sense and BAM!
now htc sense only runs at 5MB...

if you try these tips
please post and let me know your results!

thanks and hope this helps!

Makes sense, literally. Sense continued to crash on my phone, constantly restarting. I ended up wiping with a factory reset, then redownloading my apps. I'll tell you what. my phone is running like a charm right now. I just couldn't take the constant Sense restarts.

Any idea on how to clear out the data in the Mail app. Mine is running at over 98MB but it won't let me clear the data.

I tried everything; uninstalling apps, moving apps and getting pissed. Finally, i just bought My Backup Pro, backed up all my apps and settings that I could, backed up all my texts via Handcent and did a full erase/reset. I reinstalled almost all of my apps and now I'm at 221 mb free. My mail app is at 1.1 mb and my dialer storage is 30.61 mb. IDK, but it's like having a new phone. Hope that helps someone...

I noticed under Manage Apps that I have both "Facebook" (14.39mb) and "Facebook for HTC Sense" (14.47mb). Why do I need 2 separate Facebook apps? Seems like this ought to be able to free up some space, but neither one has the option to move to SD card or uninstall.

Try clearing your data on both.

i had a problem with app updates. found out i had only 40 megs. i then found out i had to move apps to sd card.

i have 275 megs free. if i do a fresh install of gb. i have 290 megs free.

you all need to move your apps to sd card. i've never had to do a cache clear or any type of wipe.

Do you really think we're collectively too stupid to know to move apps to the SD card? Please.

I've been meaning to update here for a few days, but it's getting worse. I have moved everything that is moveable, uninstalled apps I'd rather not toss, cleaned caches and data as much as I can (nuking Facebook makes it useless and it just comes back), and it still pops up that it's running out of room. I had more apps installed under Froyo and rarely ran into these problems. G'bread has been a disaster and I can't see how to fix it short of sacrificing apps I would rather not.

Here are my Top 10 apps in size:

1. Google Reader - 12.79MB - 10.6MB is data. Clearing it is temporary.

2. Adobe Flash Player - 11.96MB - All app, no data. Deleting it means I may as well have bought an iPhone.

3. Contacts Storage - 11.82MB - All but 628KB is data. I kinda need my contacts, you know?

4. Google Maps - 10.55MB - All but 48KB is app, so it's other suck it or cope.

5. Gmail - 9.29MB - 7.26MB is data. Again, deleting that is a temporary fix and I'll just have to re-add my accounts.

6. Seesmic - 8MB - 3.96MB of data which would just come back.

7. Shopkick - 7.89MB - 2.76MB data. A new addition which I could toss, by why should I have to?

8. Kindle - 7.18MB - Only 284KB is data.

9. Android Market - 7.03MB - Only 164KB of data and it's non-removable and you wouldn't want to.

10. Facebook - 6.94MB - 2MB is data.

That's roughly 92MB of apps that aren't movable or have data that shouldn't be dumped or will just come back. The next 10 apps I have - The Weather Channel, Handcent, Dolphin HD, SwiftKey X, Shazam, Lookout, Quickoffice, Google Voice, Pocket Casts, HTC Sense - are about 50MB more and the only one that can be moved to the SD card (Dolphin) has been moved. I have almost 140MB of space that I can't clear without making my phone much less useful.

kind of sounds that way. stupid.

you all are doing things most of us have yet to do and we got plenty of space.

my mail app is at 269MB, and I cant clear it. Ive removed the mail, rebooted, pulled battery...App size is 0.00, Data is 269MB. I can force stop, but thats about it. I cant even install another app...

I cant even install another app...

I am having the same problem - I can't update anything or download anything. Every non-manufacturer stocked game/app I have is on my SD card, I've actually deleted stuff to free up MORE space, and still I can't get anything to update or install on my phone because of "Insufficient Storage Space"

Its getting so aggrevating to not be able to do much on my "SMART" phone

same thing here. i've had memory problems for awhile now, and it sucks. can't be signed into Facebook and have my gmail download at the same time - it's one or the other. and even then, sometimes, i have to clear the data on both and start over.

some of my memory hogs that i CAN see:
Contacts Storage: 47 mb
Mail: 17.20 mb (and i don't even use this app! that's all data i can't even clear!)
Maps: 9.9 mb
handcent: 8.93 mb
dialer storage: 7.48 mb (what IS this, anyway?)
Google Services Framework: 4.51 mb (what's this as well??)

and a whole bunch of other things in the 3 to 5 mb range. still i can't figure out how 383 mb are being used. i bet if i added all my apps up, it wouldn't be close to that total. there has GOT to be something i don't know hogging the memory.

any ideas? and answers to my above random questions? lol

thanks.

Whatever is causing this memory loss doesn't appear to accountable in the applications section... Since I hard reset, I have seen my available memory drop from about 217 to 118MB with little change in the numbers there...

I'm having the same problem -- it was never an issue before GB.

Now I've shed tons of apps and every few days I get the message again without having added anything. I"m permanently on the cusp of too low memory.

I'm not rooted and am at my wits end.

This is getting ridiculous. I can't install any more apps unless they're able to move to the SD card and now it's refusing to check my Gmail even though I've got 41MB free. That's right: Because I "only" have 41MB of free space, I have to get on my laptop to see the two dozen emails, some rather important, that have come in while I slept. This blows.

ditto on having more than 40MB, yet the phone refusing to check gmail. and, despite deleting several apps, the memory still gets sucked up and disappears.
