After the Moto X (2014) reveal, are you excited?

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I think it looks good, and the specs seem good. Battery life will probably be average like the previous model. If you want awesome battery life, watch for an announcement for a new MAXX. Moto was surely looking to balance battery life with cost and weight on this, and the fast charging should be very helpful for those who need it. Personally, I probably won't be upgrading because I can't really find anything significant to dislike about my current (Ultra) Maxx, but I'm still looking forward to seeing what the new Droid lineup based on this will be like. Add wireless charging, XL battery, maybe a larger storage option, and it's a killer phone. I wouldn't expect an SD slot. Not sure if there's anything else they'd slip into the Droids that we aren't already seeing in the X, but the previous gen had some nice additional features.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

The first gen Moto X was small compared to the Galaxy S4, One (M7), and G2. They all probably sold better than the Moto X.

It's probably a little bit of both, surveys and sales.

I didn't want Motorola to go as large as they did, but that's what people are buying.

Well idk why ppl bought those other phones over the Moto X but there are a ton of reasons of why they could have instead of just the size of the device.

I actually kinda wish they went with 5" but idt 5.2 will be overbearing. After having the Moto X for about 10 months, I am rdy for something a little larger though.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I really want to get back to a Motorola phone. I know everyone has there own opinions, but for me, my next phone WILL have wireless charging. I've wanted that since I got the Galaxy S3 two and a half years ago and I remember that being rumored it would have it, but never did. I love the design of the Moto X but without a removable back cover, wireless charging cannot even be added by the end-user. May not be a big deal for a lot of people, but I love the convenience of it.

I wouldn't base your phone purchase off of wireless charging. I've had it with my last two phones and while yes it's convenient it's just a nicety. I place much more emphasis on other components such as UI, camera etc.

I really don't understand all of this hate or people saying they're disappointed. These specs have been known for a while. People have way too much expectation for phones each year. I for one am excited to try this phone out if the camera produces better results than the original.

It looks OK but I'm taking a pass purely because Ienova own them and I won't buy electronics that come from companies based out of countries with dictatorship governments. If the hardware and software were designed and specified from a company that operates out of a democratic nation and assembled in China plant I'll make that compromise, since that seems to be unavoidable with some manufacturers, but that's where I stop.

Google still owns motorola.

Really? What happened to the sale to Ienovo? I haven't really been following Moto news for quite a while

It hasn't been finalized yet so the MotoX is still under Google. Or so I've heard anyways.

Gotcha, just went and looked. Seems still in the works, but as you said, not finalized yet

Edit: forecasters appear to be predicting the acquisition will be done by the end of this year, which will only be a few months into the life of this phone, which causes me concern.

While I like the looks of the new Moto X, especially the ones with the leather backs, I won't be buying one because I'm concerned about the small battery and the lack of wireless charging. I currently have a Droid Maxx and the long battery life and wireless charging are two of the features that make the Droid Maxx the best phone I've ever owned.

I'm looking forward to the next generation of Droid phones and if they're not impressive then I'll wait to see what the Nexus 6 (or Nexus X) has to offer.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

The camera is a huge disappointment for me...that was my main gripe about the last Moto X.

This is a 100% crop of an ARS image:

The noise is pretty bad. Daylight photos are ok. Have not seen macro samples yet.

The other specs are fine though. If I was on Verizon I'd probably still get this. No wireless charging sucks, but it charges REALLY fast, so I might not have cared. Near-vanilla android, and with vendor add-on features I actually care about for once (touchless controls).

I'm not impressed

- LG learned their lesson in terms of removable battery why didn#t Motorola follow ?
- "only" FHD sorry but for a 5 inch phone coming out at this time QHD should be expected
- no SD 805

I didn't expect a lot but I thought/hoped Motorola would release a more competitive phone.

QHD is way overblown IMO...almost no one is going to be able to tell the difference between 1080p and QHD. Even graphics nerds will not be able to tell most of the time IMO. 1080p gives you 400+ ppi which is PLEN-ty. 400ppi is awesome by any standard.

I agree with your other two points. Moto is still technically owned by Google right now though, and we all know how much Google despises local storage options. So SD was never going to happen.

We have two Moto Xs in our household and the battery life is excellent. I'm always surprised by all these complaints regarding power management issues on it.

Sure it is plenty but I've seen some comparisons on youtube and for whatever reason I could tell the difference but yeah I don't think it will make that much of a difference on my everyday use.

I mean if google despises local storage and removable batteries that much, they could leave that decision up to Motorola and have Nexus be their "our way" phone. You know I love competition and it would have been nice seeing other companies pushing Samsung, LG even more :)

Right now I'm deciding between this phone and the iphone 6. I gotta see how the moto x battery is going to be

You really thought Motorola was going to go to a QHD screen, which is ridiculous in that size of phone, and a 805??

It wasn't really on my radar screen due to the small size but they've corrected that now. Still some questions about camera and battery performance that will be answered soon. I'd still lean toward either the G3 or the Note 4 over the Moto X if I were to go Android.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I'd be willing to ditch my S5 if Motorola announces a MotoX variant with the Maxx battery. I think its bound to happen and while it will look different it'll still be similar hardware. I just want all day battery life again and the S5 doesn't make it through my usage so I'm not going to be satisfied with the MotoX as far as I can tell.

I do love the premium materials on the MotoX though. Premium build quality with no creaks is important t to me. Its something the S5 has failed with me on.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

I guess that is why they launched this as well:
