After the new update contact image no longer loadable?

I'm no longer able to select an image from my photos as the picture for a contact. I have a few stupid pre selected artwork icons or you can take a live image. I don't want to do that. Does anyone know of a way around this new change to the interface?

What update? What phone? There are many updates, and many phones.

I guess I assumed it was a massive update as it forced me to re-download the primary keyboard, change elements of my profile, and broke my theme. Samsung S7, Android V8, Samsung V9
