After updating my Verizon LG G3 to VS98547A today, play store fails

Now Play Store goes immediately to the "Check your connection and try again" error page. I have tried clearing caches and data, changing the time and rebooting, disabling play store and then reinstalling the latest release from an APK but no joy.
 
Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data? Are you having difficulty connecting with other Google services like Gmail, Calendar, etc.?
