All about Incredible batteries (Replacements, Charging..ect)

Can I make a suggestion? New Incredible owners on here seem in a hurry to order the Seidio battery. Instead of running out to spend $50 on a battery for your brand new phone (or in addition to doing this), can't we all call Verizon and complain about the abysmal battery life? I'm really not sure I can even keep this phone. I absolutely LOVE everything about it, but I can't get through HALF a day on almost zero usage! Someone really screwed up here and I think Verizon and/or HTC owe us an updated battery.

After all, they're not nearly living up to their spec sheet: Standby time 149 hours?! I barely get 7!

I feel like there some very broad ranges of battery life people are getting.
I am getting through a 8am-midnight day with moderate usage no problem. I am basically dead at the end of the day, but thats what i expect.

This includes calls, txts, incoming emails(3accts), random browser usage, etc...

Then they should be prepared to exchange batteries for those with complaints. I don't know how you're doing that unless your battery is just somehow healthier than mine. I've dropped 5% just sitting here in the past 10 minutes.

By the way, just talked with Verizon tech support and they're basically useless, giving me "tips" and "tricks" on how to improve my battery life (they suggested installing an app killer - asked me to tell her what apps are running - NOTHING but the basic background phone services!).

So that's their answer - run an app killer. What the hell, I'm going to download the free Advanced App Killer and try that, nothing to lose.

I do use an App Killer, so maybe that has a small something to do with it. I also spend the majority of my day connected to a WiFi network, so not sure how that might effect the situation.

And 8am-midnight may have been a bit of an exaggeration (i forgot i charged for a short period of time during lunch)

However, today its 4pm and Im at 30% (started use a little before 8am)

I guess we could all complain, but just in case they decide not to do anything about it, I will still use my Seidio battery. I'm not giving up this phone under any circumstances.

BTW: We love this device because it's faster than anything out there, does everything under the sun, and has a compact for factor. For now, the trade off is battery life.

Condition your Battery First!

If you have had your device less than 3 days, you should be following a complete discharge and then complete recharge for several days BEFORE being too concerned with battery life.

It takes the system a while to learn the full capacity of the battery and starting to make comparisons between different batteries when you have not done this are going to be somewhat bogus.

If you just got the Seidio Extended battery, you need to condition it as well.

This is IN the documentation...

Important Notice for Innocell Extended Life Battery users:

Prior to using your new extended battery, please allow 8 hours for initial charge time. Performance will increase after 5-6 full charges.

my stock battery on day 4 is DRAMATICALLY better than it was on day 1. getting through a full 8-9 hour day now...

I charged mine for 12 hours and have gone through 5-6 cycles already.
Now its worse (today).

Regardless, the battery life is still rediculous. Even with it not "broken in" it should last longer than it does now. If anything, I would expect the battery to initally be as what we are hoping to achieve and than get even stronger after the charging cycles.

If you really feel that way, you can return it.

The reality is that battery storage is not keeping up with battery requirements and there are no easy solutions other than putting in larger thicker batteries right now.

You can still do that, but most people would then complain the phone is too large.

I have not actually had any problems with normal use of the phone and its battery. With proper management and access to a charger (I carry a retractable USB to MicroUSB cable with me) it is not really an issue.

You also have the option of carrying an additional battery something that an iPhone user can't do.

I most likely will opt to get the Seidio extended battery to give me more room but it is not a requirement and I use a phone a lot.

Returning it is not the point, (and in my opinion out of the question) having a strong battery to begin with and not having to deal with it is.

I still have the stock battery... The first 2 days had pretty low battery life times and today marks the 5 charge cycle. I removed the phone from the charger at exactly 10AM, it is now 5:13PM and I have 27% remaining. It seems I'm getting 10% per hour and this is how it was used... (GPS (Except when navigating), BT, and WiFi were disabled, screen brightness set to automatic.

WiFi on for about 20 minutes to update some statuses and browse twitter,

Twitter and Facebook set to sync every hour, but manually synced many times and updated about 7 posts.

GMAIL set to push my 3 mail accounts... Many emails received and about 10 sent.

Turned on GPS and used navigation for 45 minutes. Turned off GPS when done.

10 text messages

4 Foursquare updates (3 of which required 3G searching)

3 pictures with flash taken

Attached to my car stereo and played music for a total of 1 hour.

I think I'm going to stick with the stock battery for now and give the extra accessories some time to come out. I am definitely going to invest in an extended battery at some point, because even though I am getting OK life and haven't needed a mid-day charge yet, I find myself "rationing" what I do on the phone. I want to be able to just veg out on the internet, have things update in realtime and still know I'm going to have a good amount of battery life left... If I have to go to a thicker form factor and mod my current holster, so be it, as I don't think the 1750 battery is going to allow for that yet...

Today I have had a somewhat "light" day.
Off charger at 6:45
Normal exchange email volume
average Gmail volume
Light call volume
Light surfing a few sites a couple googles and a 2 minute video
A few camera pix
mild contact use.
Managing wifi and bt
I am now at %50

Entirely acceptable to me.

Not earth-shattering but acceptable.

Do you guys with acceptable battery life have any settings changed? For example, did you turn off the weather app which constantly updates location?

Yeah I have also noticed my battery getting better over the days. I went from a full charge at 7a.m dying around 5 p.m to dying around 7 p.m. I'm more data emails and text not a lot of calls. With WiFi and gps on with auto brightness. I'm thinking about getting an external battery pack from eBay audits only $25 so I can his plug my phone into that when on the go and not next an outlet

My weather is set to update every 6 hours... I mean, if something so drastically changes with the weather within 6 hours, chances are I'll probably already have notice from another source and be headed to a shelter already...

I unchecked the "Enable always-on mobile data" from under the mobile network settings as per the other sticky threads on battery life.

My 2 other POP email accounts other than GMail have now been set to push through GMail instead of each account updating separately... I still have the individual accounts set up so I can compose emails from any of them, but they are set to manually update only.

Aside from that, nothing different.

My GF is out of town and has her old phone and phone number she is using so Her incredible has gone from 100% to 79% in 24 hours of just standby. Only thing i did on it was download the battery widget. Its also on the optimum settings for battery life too,( no wifi, no background data, no always on mobile data, no gps and no wireless networks for location) So assuming you have all those off, your battery should last at the very least 4-5 days of just standby. Figure one percent an hour of standby which would get you just over 4 days. And thats on a stock battery, second full charge.

Sounds like your going to love the 3500 battery when that comes out, assuming you dont mind the extra weight. Your talking 170 percent MORE battery, so add the 100 percent for the 1300 and your at 270 percent more total battery size. If my math is right, (should be i got a finance degree)
Talk about long useage!

Yeah... That's the one I'm waiting for... As for the extra weight, I wouldn't mind in the least. I'm a really big guy and didn't expect how light this phone was going to be.

I have one concern though about a larger battery... If you look at the back of the phone now where the battery cover ends, it's right below the camera lense. If the battery is too thick, or not made with a beveled edge, I wonder if it could interfere with the camera lenses field of vision... We'll have to wait and see, I guess...
