All about Incredible batteries (Replacements, Charging..ect)

What is the truth about extra batteries.

Like most I at time find the battery life of the incredible somewhat disappointing.

I ran across an interesting web site that actually tests and reviews after market batteries and found the information rather interesting.

There is no real check and balances on to the milliamperage (mah) that the battery company states for their batteries. They may claim 2000 mah but the battery may only perform as if it was 1700 mah.

This is believable since the test indicate that the OEM batteries generally are at least at 95% of their advertised milliamperage.

However, many of the "no-name" after market batteries don't do as well.

For example, their tests of a after-market claimed 1600 mah was actually closer to 1300 mah. In this case the OEM was 1400 mah (test showed 1357mah). The conclusion in this example seems to be to get an additional OEM battery for $18 (per ah) rather than the aftermarket 1600 mah for $38 (per ah) since the performance would be very similar.

It is hard to us as phone owners to accurately figure out battery life since the way we use the phone is so different day to day, plus it is more than likely that others use their phones quite differently from us.

To see this information and the testing methodology go to BatteryBoss Calls Out False Capacity Claims!. The author suggests that incredible owners look at the data for the Touch Pro 2 as that they both use the same battery.

Interesting reading.

This is all information covered in the various battery threads in this forum. Popular extended battery for the Incredible right now is the Seido 1750, people who have them seem to really like them and are reporting about 2x the battery life over the stock 1300 that comes in the phone.

But seeing results, while I don't doubt he's right, from one website is hard to determine he's the undisputed citation for all things battery. Take what he has as a guide not a map.

Hard data is always nice, and you can kind of see how each manufacture either over rates their maH ratings etc. But each company, like Seido, buys their batteries from other manufactures many of them being from overseas so most times the capacities versus ratings are different from battery to battery in the same batch depending on the original manufacturer.

So while the one battery he has may actually have 95% of the rated value the next may have more or less. So it's really luck of the draw unfortunately from my experience.

Qazme, my understanding from those in the battery business is that when you purchase the battery cells from the manufacturer (i.e. Toshiba, Panasonic, etc.) they are rated as A, B, C quality etc. Apparently within that quality rating the mah is amazingly consistent and accurate. I imagine perfect rating is impossible, but their system does seem to take into account the possible cell variations.

Obviously the lower quality cells will not perform as well but I guess they would still have the same rated mah.

There is a huge difference between rated maH and actual. A batch of batteries will be rated to be 1300maH but after charging due to circuitry inside the controller, or the cells in the battery itself, may or may not charge it to 1300 it could end up being 1145 or could be 1300. My point was that no two batteries will be alike, and testing one or even 5 batteries is no indication of quality or capacity across the board you would need a much higher test sample than what that site gives you.

Qazme, I concur, but I think it is important for consumer's to recognize that mah rating may not be indicative of the battery they receive either due to variations in manufacture or more likely the distributor over listing the spec.

I know years ago when camcorder batteries were a big thing I cracked some battery packs open that the manufacturer listed as 1800mah to find cells labeled 1300mah inside.

Have a great weekend!

Yeah I believe we are saying the same thing in two different ways. I think a consumer should get what is paid for. In fact manufacturers, instead of over rating the maH of the battery how about under-rate it so that when you tell us it's a 1300 maH it turns out to be a 1425 that way any variance lower will never be below the rated capacity!!

Well that would require companies to loose money in most cases...

Also, that would also kind of be the companies saying "look, our battery supplier sucks", so we're compensating by spending more money on a bad supplier?

Battery from Seidio

I can get the 1750 battery from Seidio through amazon for 23.00?
Think it's worth it? I have GPS and wifi turned off and I get 24 hrs.
I am getting around 12 with GPS turned on and am usually around a charger.

Just some thoughts if you don't mind.

I would get it. I just got mine on Friday and am currently breaking it in. Even on the first day of use it was amazing. I took it off of the charger at 7AM and by the time I was ready to go to bed, at 11PM, I still had 52% left on the battery. This is with WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS enabled. It got a pretty good workout as well. I was on the internet and market throughout the day. I made a few calls, and lots of emails going out and coming in.

With numbers like that - it's hard to say

I have the 1750 battery and I don't get the numbers that bigslam123 does - mine lasts maybe 12-14 hours before it complains and I have 3G, BT and GPS always on - never turn wifi on at all
