Question about "bump charging"

Does this have to be done every time you charge it in order to improve the battery life? Or just one time or once in a while??

TIA.

My stock lasted me

I am getting good battery life on my device again.

I wasn't the other day for some reason and after doing the tricks people suggested (the screen one was the biggie) I am sending my extended battery back.

I took my phone off the charger at 6:30 am and by lunch was down to 64%.
At 7pm I was in the orange after about minutes of web browsing, some foursquare, txts and emails today.

I picked up, thanks to my staples rewards points the xp2000 portable charger for 4.76!!!!

I know some of you said get the battery instead, but I am rarely away from a charger unless I am photographing an event (like this Saturday) so it came down to needs. I would like both, but boss wouldn't be happy LOL

bump has helped my battery when i do it. but im not gonna do that everyday. it seems to be gettin better with time. the first 20% runs down fast but the last 60% drags ass. anyone notice the actual charger makin noises while charging? sometimes mine "hisses" during a bump charge. got me thinkin the charger was the issue ......

Extra charging doesn't help. We're looking for other options.

HTC and a bunch of people on here have said otherwise but you probably have the inside scoop huh

it isnt at all convenient but still. its a temporary help

I'm running the 1750mAh battery right now with some minimal to moderate use day to day. Not heavy (well, not any more). But, right now I have 6 bars left of charge at 16h38m. Is it right to have Android System at 91% with Cell Standby at 5% and Phone Idle at 4%? Just curious because I've been getting pretty odd long battery life right now. I'll have to try some heavy use. But I'm just curious about the "%" it's showing for the Android System. Usually the Standby and Idle systems are 30~40% each. And then it would list programs I might have run or Android System. I dunno? Anyone with similar %?

He's talking about it doesn't help his circumstance, he needs a good battery not the need or advice to have to charge it more.

I'm on my first day/first charge cycle of my 1750. I used the living crap out of it today playing games etc etc and I put it back on the charger at 20% charge after 12 hours. All I did today was play with my phone trying to kill the battery lol.

I figure as most people have reported the life of the Seidio 1750 does get a lot better after the 5-6 cycle charge so I figure with moderate usage this battery should have no problem seeing 16-20 hours without question or needing to worry about it. Of course this is just preliminary results I can't really make a judgement or honest opinion till I'm a few days in, so far I can say I'm please with it though.

Well that's interesting. It also shows me that HTC is paying attention to the forums. I can't believe they are actually giving that as a solution though. Interesting.

Yeah, that blows me away that they would recommend that procedure as a FIX.

Thanks for keeping us posted - it may be the only answer.

Extended Battery Report!

Hey guys,

Grab some popcorn, turn up the back ground music, do whatever you gotta do to get comfortable! This is going to be a lengthy read on my experiences with the Extended HTC Touch Pro2 OEM 2150mAh battery used in the Droid Incredible.

Although I only got one full days usage out of the battery, it was one awesome day. I'm going to let the picasa pictures and youtube video tell some of the story, but I'll also write my experiences here.

For all you guys interested in the hard stats, here's what I found so far:

Up time 23:24:54
Awake Time: 23:24:54
Unplugged time 23:23:49

Voice Calls: 32%
Phone Idle: 24%
Cell Standby: 16%
Android System: 12%
Dialer: 7%
Wifi: 6%
Display: 3%

Wifi: ON
GPS: ON
Bluetooth: Off

Mobile Data: Always ON
Screen Brightness: 20%

Usage Pattern:
2:10 Minutes of calls, about 35 emails received, 20 texts, downloaded 2 apps, used touiteur pro for about 10 minutes, kept Bloo 1.5 (Facebook client) running in the back ground for almost 6 hours w/ chat enabled, played bonsai blast for 10 minutes, took some camera shots, listened to music for 1 hour, watched music videos for about 30 minutes.

Not surprised:
  • The battery fits perfectly into the back.
  • It's about twice as thick as the normal battery
  • It came from the factory charged (66%)
  • It makes the device a little bulky and heavy, cause the Incredible is so thin in the first place.
  • It did not damage my phone in any discernible way

Surprised:
  • It would not register with the built in Battery module (see exclaimation mark over battery in my pictures)
  • In place of "Charging" on Battery status in Settings it says "Unknown"
  • The battery would not charge in the phone while plugged in :(
  • It kept the phone awake CONSTANTLY. I shut down every app that *COULD* have been keeping the phone awake.
  • The notification light wouldn't stop flashing from green to red and back again
  • The battery never got hot under extended usage
  • The silicon case fit around the back quite well
  • The battery, after draining the first time, is still charging now after putting it on the desktop charger at 11pm last night.
  • The phone w/o the silicon case, wouldn't fit nicely into my blackberry 8800 holster which I bought it for :(

Anecdote time:

So I put in the 2150mAh battery in the Incredible at midnight Tuesday May 25, 2010. I spoke to my fianc?e for about an hour and the battery percentage reported through Battery Indicator Pro still read 100%! Now, I know that it wasn't accurate because of calibration with the phone, laws of physics, the first time, and what not, I was still excited nonetheless. Two hours later I woke up for a snack and saw the battery had gone down the 89%! I promptly tried to save battery life by going to Airplane mode. I knew this quick drain was due to the battery not being able to sleep.

7:00am now and I leave for work, turn on radios, send texts, and the battery is at 82%. I play music videos in the car on my way to work for 30 minutes. It's now down to 81% when I get to work. 1% drop!! Crazy awesomeness!

I go throughout the day, doing my normal usage patterns (as aforementioned) and by the end of day it's at 33% with just over 19 hours of awake time. Now, after I report that here on the forums, I take a rest @ 6:45pm for 2 hours and forget to go into Airplane mode. And the battery life dips suddenly...19% after I wake up. Now, I live in a good reception area (-65dBm - 75dBm), so I know that's not the culprit. It's just that the phone can't sleep for some reason due to the circuitry of the battery/compatibility with Inc.

I tried many different things throughout the day to get it to work, like reprogramming, changing settings, nothing worked. I called my brother, spoke for about 45 minutes, played some games, talked more on the phone, sent texts, took pictures of my house for my fianc?e, and looked up stuff on Twitter. Got the battery down to 8% and that's when I snapped all these glorious photos for you guys. Anyhow, I've rambled on enough.

A few take away points for you all:

-If you need battery life, and it's a priority - this is the bad boy to get!

-I couldn't get the phone to sleep. If I could, I'd have better and more accurate numbers from my experiences.

-All cases, mods, and anything you like for the exterior of your phone will be rendered useless by this battery bump! (Pun intended)

-Not sure if I am going to take the plunge when the real one comes -- this experience has shown me at least that carrying an extra battery / charger isn't so bad.

Please guys, enjoy the photos (Picasa link) and the video I posted on Youtube: here! Yes, that last shot is of me posing with my Incredible! Lol.

Shoot me any questions you may have and I'll be happy to answer them. The battery is going back to AT&T, for use in a Tilt 2 somewhere, tomorrow morning!

Hope you enjoyed my report guys!
-Elo

For the last week or so I've been charging my phone overnight (turned off) and then unplugging and plugging it back in every morning before I jump in the shower at about 6am. My battery life has steadily improved to the point where i am sitting around 50-60% left when I plug it back in around 10:30-11pm every evening. When I look at my phone’s “awake time” I am usually in the 2-3 hour range at the end of the day so it’s not sitting “unused” all day long.

Overall the battery life is improving over time and once I got some sync settings toned down (don’t need to sync facebook every hour, etc) I have managed to have more than adequate battery life on the stock battery. I might look into a higher capacity OEM slim battery at some point, but for now I’m happy.

The biggest issue I’ve dealt with was applications causing the phone to not sleep. I’ve done 2 factory resets at this point and I finally have everything working the way I want without having to use a task killer or anything else to manage those apps every time I touch my phone. I hope that we get an OTA update to some of the stock HTC apps that seem to be causing problems, but for now I’m enjoying the phone more and thinking less about the battery so all is well.

OMFG! Haha that's crazy I'm pretty sold on getting one lol!

where do I go to see the actual battery percentage that some of you are posting?

I just got my incredible 2 days ago and read these last few pages and didnt see any real tips on a longer battery other than bump charging it.

What are some others that i missed?

Qazme, do you still stand by this -- that even with heavy use you can get about 12 hours out of the battery?

Thank you. :)

EDIT: nevermind...didn't realize that your post was from today. :) Will wait for more feedback.

Is there a list of the apps that are causing the phone to never sleep? I can't seem to isolate the source of my awake/uptime problem.

Go into the app store and download battery status pro

It's free and really helpful app that most ppl use.

Well Today I bump charged the phone 4x before I left the house this am at 0900. It stayed at 100% for the first hour and a half w/ moderate use including GPS nav. Now at 2120 I'm at 40%. Not bad. Its a pain to do but maybe I could get 1 bump at nite before bed and 2 in the am before work. This is probably what I will do until the 3200 and back come out. I could just carry the orig battery w/ many bump charges on it as a back up.

you could also just hit the clock on the homescreen when the device is plugged in.
It will show you the percentage then.

I am getting solid battery life with the stock and I have no idea what I am doing wrong LOL
