All these new Verizon updates are bricking my Note 8!

I had heard that too and was always rooted and not doing updates. if you didn't enable them for the update, how is a FR going to help? is there a way to reinstall the update?

I forgot because I never take updates, and things are fine overall except for a reduced signal. no way I want to do a FR when all else is fine.
A FR (which I avoid at all costs, hence my update process) will absolutely help because it puts all the default stock apps back during the process of the FR (just like it was from the factory, minus any OS or security updates it got since then). No need to reinstall the update since a FR doesn't remove that part during the process.

to my knowledge, the only thing I took was the security updates, so no need to FR then

I'm having the same issue. Unresponsive after charging for an extended period of time (overnight twice, during the day once). Reboot works and no lingering issues. Frustrating.

I updated with the November security patch. Have sd card in with a couple apps on it, lots of app disabled, and no problems. Verizon. I never understand why some phones have problems with things that others don't on the same carrier, and the same update. WTF.

BUT, I *think* when a FR is done, all the security updates you had and the same OS version you had at that time are most likely reinstalled during the process, which would explain why a FR can sometimes fix a bad update. I probably didn't explain it very clearly/correctly in my previous post. Sorry about that.

Full disclosure here, I'm by no means an expert on Android, but I've used many Android devices and kept them all up to date for many years.

thanks. no need to apologize for anything. appreciate you taking the time.

right. I'm with Sprint and didn't re-enable anything. the only thing that suffered is my signal and that's all Sprint.

Dummy moment again lol but what is FR? Full root?

So guys I have some good/bad news... I did a factory reset and unfortunately LOST MOSTLY EVERYTHING EVEN WITH A LOT of backups with apps/accounts. it worked somewhat however and my phone has been on for over 24hrs without bricking... I'll keep you guys posted in the next 48hrs with things

Well explained and worded 👏

I had the same problem this morning. Just dead til I did a reset. Never had an Android phone do this. I didn't touch any settings either. At least anything that might make it go wonky. I might take it back it and go Pixel XL. Stupid Verizon!

Factory reset fixed my N8 from the same problem. Good luck.

Did you forget to re-enable any disabled stock apps BEFORE installing the update(s)? If so, that's probably the culprit. The only way to fix that would be a factory reset.

I've never done that. I disable apps with package disabler and have never had an issue with the vzw updates.

If course, ymmv.

the app page on GP does say to re-enable, but I had no issues with the first update when I didn't. for the second one, as a test, I re-enabled everything. no difference for me either way.

FWIW, I've been running the update for a few days now. No issues at all with it. I do not have any apps disabled via a package disabler, etc.

I may have joined the bricking group. getting weird messages suddenly and phone unresponsive. all new as of about five minutes ago. on Sprint here. not sure if I need to do a FR now. :(

solution to the freezing and error message. I uninstalled BK Package Disabler. no longer freezing, no messages, and my signal was restored. oddnes since this is the 2nd issue I had with this update. I'll let the dev know so he can update the app.
