A FR (which I avoid at all costs, hence my update process) will absolutely help because it puts all the default stock apps back during the process of the FR (just like it was from the factory, minus any OS or security updates it got since then). No need to reinstall the update since a FR doesn't remove that part during the process.I had heard that too and was always rooted and not doing updates. if you didn't enable them for the update, how is a FR going to help? is there a way to reinstall the update?
I forgot because I never take updates, and things are fine overall except for a reduced signal. no way I want to do a FR when all else is fine.

BUT, I *think* when a FR is done, all the security updates you had and the same OS version you had at that time are most likely reinstalled during the process, which would explain why a FR can sometimes fix a bad update. I probably didn't explain it very clearly/correctly in my previous post. Sorry about that.to my knowledge, the only thing I took was the security updates, so no need to FR then
thanks. no need to apologize for anything. appreciate you taking the time.BUT, I *think* when a FR is done, all the security updates you had and the same OS version you had at that time are most likely reinstalled during the process, which would explain why a FR can sometimes fix a bad update. Full disclosure here, I'm by no means an expert on Android, but I've used many Android devices and kept them all up to date for many years.
I updated with the November security patch. Have sd card in with a couple apps on it, lots of app disabled, and no problems. Verizon. I never understand why some phones have problems with things that others don't on the same carrier, and the same update. WTF.

I had the same problem this morning. Just dead til I did a reset. Never had an Android phone do this. I didn't touch any settings either. At least anything that might make it go wonky. I might take it back it and go Pixel XL. Stupid Verizon!
Did you forget to re-enable any disabled stock apps BEFORE installing the update(s)? If so, that's probably the culprit. The only way to fix that would be a factory reset.
I've never done that. I disable apps with package disabler and have never had an issue with the vzw updates.
If course, ymmv.
