ALL X Owners looking to Root/Hack in the Future - READ THIS

If your running the leaked 2.2 I don't even think the official can be pushed to your phone. Im checking birdmans twitter more than others are checking for the official.

I can confirm that the OTA can be rooted using the Droid2 method. I just did it meow and it worked fine for me. Official OTA and su access.

birdmans latest tweet:

If you guys hold off on the 2.2 OTA, ill have a pre-rooted .zip to install (will work no matter what version your on :) )

Yup,t hat's what I'm waiting for! Hopefully it'll be as easy as rebooting into recovery mode and applying the update. :D

Wow after reading that birdman said you CANNOT sbf back to 2.1 from the official 2.2, I am so holding off. Glad I made this post. At least maybe some folks have the option still...

Wonder why you can't SBF back? It worked perfectly for the leaked 2.2.

hey dark, question for you.

Do you know if I can bootstrap + clockwork + flyx over the original 2.2 leak? I did the regular leak method first instead of through recovery manager. Or should I just sbf flash it first so I get a nandroid backup of 2.1?

Honestly this is one thing I have not messed with. I have only ran straight up updates, no bootstrap or custom roms. I feel nandroids are pointless, as it seems flaky to me. I prefer to just straight up SBF flash/wipe cache+data if I need to start fresh.

I would advise looking around in the Roms and Hacks subforum for questions on this. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help on that :(

2 questions for you Dark...

1. If you install the 2.2 leak from rootzwiki, does it leave all your app settings and data (contacts, calendar, etc...) as is on the phone?

2. What is this all about (also from rootzwiki):

Installing Custom Recovery:

1. Install whatever OS version you want (2.1 or 2.2)
2. Make sure your phone is rooted
3. Download and install Droid X Bootstrap (credit to koush)
4. Download and install Rom Manager from the Market
5. Click Bootstrap Recovery inside the DroidX Bootstrap APP
6. Download the recovery from inside Rom Manager
7. Reboot into recovery from ROM MANAGER

What is this custom recovery, and if I did the steps he list after installing the leak, would step 7 wipe and reinstall me to some new OS, or would you only do those some of those steps if you have to recover/restore your phone?

Thanks (from one jar head to another)

Grey, when I updated from stock 2.1 to the 2.2 leak it left all my settings and apps intact. Just make sure that you move the su file from bin to xbin before you do it, or else you will have to re-root with the droid 2 method or sbf flash and do it again.

For custom recovery, those are if you want to install Flyx or Tranquility or any other custom roms that are available on rom manager. They are modified versions of the OS so it is no longer under the "official" or "leaked" category, and they usually remove bloat and can sometimes streamline some settings.

Your post also looks like it answered my last question for dark, so thanks.

I have the first leak 2.2 with bootstrap and used clockwork to get Flyx and all is fine.

Do you need to move the su file BACK to the bin dir after running the update, or do you just leave it in xbin forever?

You leave it in xbin forever. You should also move busybox from bin to xbin as well. Both su and busybox should be in xbin before shifting over to leaked 2.2.

Looks like the other guys basically cleared that all up for you before I got the chance (was busy rooting and putting leaked Froyo on my gf's phone lol what a mess)

Quick question. I'm already on 2.2 and FlyX via ROM Manager. Every time I reboot my phone it goes to a screen with green lettering and I have to press the camera key to finish the reboot. I'm pretty sure it's from the clockwork recovery mod. Is there a way to get rid of this so I don't have to press the camera key every time? I like to do a reboot every morning and it's kind of a nuisance having to watch the screen to hit the camera key every time.

Open up bootstrapper and press the first option. good luck!

Before I install this leak 2.2 (I guess it's just the plain vanilla 2.2 as opposed to some highfalutin FlyX...whatever that is), can anyone tell me...Is this leak a real 2.2 OS, or one of those half a$$ed hybrid type things that we used to find all the time on CrackBerry for our BB's? I know that a leak means it's not digitally signed and approved, but is it really a 2.2 that is intended to work on a Droid X?

When I say half a$$ed (referring to bb again), what I mean is that they might grab some cod files from this phone and other cod files from that phone, put them all together and then psych yourself into thinking it's better, but it's really not because the main cod (the radio.cod in the bb world) was the same, and that's where the phone really gets it mojo.

Nope devildog its a legit 2.2 os update. It's just not official. It really has no difference from the official 2.2, as all the bugs on the leaked 2.2 are present on the official release as far as I could tell.

Yea I love how we been testing the 2.2 leak for a month and they didn't fix anything we talked about
