I never turn my phone off at night, in case my mom calls with an emergency or if my husband is working late and needs to call me. I always put Do Not Disturb on and so I only have Priority Contacts - my husband, mom, brother, and mother-in-law - are able to get through if they call or text.

But I do place my phone out of my line of vision so I don't see it or the AOD. I even turn it face-down so I don't see the light!

My wife is in the bed next to me.
Closest relative is 90 miles awsy.
My son is 650 miles away.
They tax everybody for something called 911which I don't like.

My phone is on 24/7. I do restart it regularly. In fact reset it yesterday. Took me 12 hours to get it back to how I like it though. Not something I will make a habit of.

Funny how this thread was resurrected after a year.. I remember reading it back then, surprised I didn't reply. Kind of surprising it's in a Pixel forum, as it's a general question. I have been using my phone for my night clock since my Palm Pre and its wonderful Touchstone back in 2010. I almost always have my ringer set to vibrate anyway, and back then, that was the only option at night besides airplane mode to silence notifications. DND mode with the ability to set exceptions to Android was a welcome addition. I reboot only when my phone gets sluggish or acts up.

I've never turned off a phone ever. No matter what phone I have smart, dumb, or otherwise gets put on it's charger right next to my smartwatch on my night stand every night. I reboot most of my devices at least once a week.

Don't need anybody calling and waking me up.
So I like to cut my phone off.
I know if its a emergency..they will call the wife..she will wake me up..
She has her alarm on her note 9 set to wake her up.

I've been out of remission for about 5 months.
Some of the medicine I'm on.
Don't let me sleep much at nite.

I keep my phone on the charger in another room. don't have to worry about an alarm clock, my neighbors dog in the other half of the duplex will wake me.

We are lucky

We live in a small retirement community. No HOA. I hate HOA's

The only times its noisy here is on the weekend when somebody might come up.
So most of the neighbors are not here. They live somewhere else.
During the week its super quiet. I have a heat pump. Keep it on 77*
I have a honeywell thermostat that I can change the setting on the air conditioner with with my cell phone. That way I don't have to get out of bed.
I'm lazy.

Got a window unit heat and air in the bedroom widow. I run it so I don't hear the dog snore.
Or hear nothing outside. set it on 77* SO air moves in the bedroom. Then I don't run the ceiling fan.
It also has a remote.
So sometime I leave my phone on.

I understand what you are saying! My mom has a landline and so she turns off her smartphone at night and if there are emergencies, we know to call her landline. They are definitely useful when you still have them! However, I think she is thinking of canceling her landline service in the near future.

My husband and I do not have a landline so we rely on our smartphones.

A number of friends have moved away from landlines. The only real reason to either turn off the cell or put it on Do Not Disturb is to avoid its chiming and pinging or whatever when emails show up in the middle of the night. The land line does not get email (g)

Thank goodness for that!

I never realized how annoying my phone could be when it would randomly chime when my DND wasn't enabled quite yet. I don't know what I'd do without DND!

And it's not like I'm a super important individual who gets dozens of notifications an hour... But you can bet that *just* when you're about to drift off to dreamland, you'll get that email notification... .

I always turn it off - usually as soon as I walk in the door so long as I'm not expecting something/someone.

My home is my sanctuary - and I allow no one to intrude uninvited - and a turned on phone is a unwelcome trojan horse for others to impinge on my time/place.

I communicate with my friends and family when it suits me - not when it suits them!

Except that my phone belongs to me. To that end, I'll talk to people when I am good and ready - not when others choose to impinge on my personal time.

You make time for true friends if they need it despite it maybe being inconvenient. Needs a human filter to decide if and when that time is now which DND rules can never match.
