Amazon App Store: How to install on Inspire

You don't need to move/copy the files from anywhere. I used AC SWM with the app installed in the amazon directory. I believe you have to enable "usb mass storage" if it doesn't automatically do it as it does with my atrix.

Use this method:

Since the free clock is ticking on Angry Birds Rio I thought I would help out others with AT&T on installing the game.

  1. Go to USB Debugging mode
  2. Sideload Appstore
  3. Open Appstore and download angry birds. It will fail on the install.
  4. On your computer browse to: phonestorage/android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache
  5. Side load the apk

Good luck!

Where do you guys get the USB drivers for sideload to work on Inspire?
mine actually installed when plugging my atrix to my win7 machine.

did it not install them when plugging your device?

I did a bit of fiddlin' this evening & have the Amazon App Store now installed but I still download an actual app. Bah!!

It's all good - it's fun to the AAS icon in my app tray.

I have been able to download the amazon store, and i am successfully installing apps, using swm. HOWEVER, I cant seem to get any of the UPDATES to the Amazon store to work. Anyone else getting the updates installed? I continually get the error "already installed". So I am guessing that, there really isnt a new update, I installed it, but the Amazon Store app will never recognize it because it was updated using SWM ???????

The Amazon Appstore will download the app but not install it. So you have to sideload each app until ATT fixes things. Go back to the 1st post in this thread.

Thanks netposer. I used the following from post #21 as well. Great info.

o

Is there a way to install the Amazon App Store and then Angry Birds Rio, WITHOUT Rooting my phone? Or do all these methos involve using rooted phones?

Thanks.

I can't figure this out either. How do we update the App Store, or any updates to apps that we have sideloaded?

BEFORE YOU DO THIS NOTE THAT UNINSTALLING THE AMAZON APPSTORE WILL DELETE YOUR DOWNLOADED .APK FILES.
So before you do this you might want to backup the .apk files in the "\Android\data\com.amazon.venezia\cache" directory on your SD card. Also the .apk files in the above directory are only used to sideload so if you have already sideloaded (read installed) the apps then it won't affect your already installed Amazon Appstore apps. This is just a precaution in case you have yet to install the app.

You will have to delete the Amazon AppStore App from your device then sideload the new one from the same link as in the OP:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get-ap...tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU799556

Then open the newly installed AppStore and re-login with your Amazon account.

Thanks for that. BTW, The file at that link is still called amazon appstore release. Are you sure that is the updated version? The Update file is exactly the same size.
I'll mess with it later.

If you root your phone, you won't have to worry about jumping through hoops to install apps from Amazon or really ANY source. I've got two AT&T android phones and both are rooted, although not just for installing apps from Unknown Sources. Rooting opens many doors, this is just one of them.

Attention Amazon Appstore Updaters!!!!!!

For those of you wishing to update the Amazon Appstore, please check out the following thread. On the second page you will find the updated .apk I uploaded for someone with the same issue. Just follow the instructions for updating an existing install via SWM.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-inspire-4g/80534-amazon-app-store-notification.html

Once you have updated, if you get another notification in the app for an update, just tap on update and your problem should ne solved.
