Amazon Appstore Parsing Error

I'm at a loss for this issue. Searching Google (and through other Android/Amazon forums) have not returned a solution to my problem.
I have the Amazon Appstore App, and can download and install new apps through it, but I cannot update my existing apps through it without receiving a package parsing error. The only way that it sort of works, is to uninstall the app, and then re-install it. But in the process, data is wiped for the app.
I also tried uninstalling the Amazon Appstore App itself, and then re-installing it. Same problem. I have also shut off my anti-virus, and that also has no effect. Ideas on how to fix this annoying problem?

(There is an update to the Minecraft App that I would like to install, but cannot due to this problem. I really dont want to lose my saved game data.)

Do you know if the apps are being installed by the stock Package Installer, or are they being scanned by Google first? One of the recent updates to the Google system was the option of having Google do a security scan of the package first before installing, and I've found that this often leads to an error when using Amazon Appstore. Try going to Settings/Apps, hit the menu button, and tap "Reset app preferences" (or whatever is equivalent). Then, when installing or updating your app via the Appstore, if it gives you the option of what to use to install, select the stock "Package Installer."

I tried all the suggestions, and nothing worked. Amazingly, uninstalling the updatable app, and then re-installing it did not delete my saved game data, so I am good for right now, but it still seems ridiculous that I cannot update apps through the Amazon Appstore, but I can install new ones.

Thank you, Diddy. But that was actually the first thing I tried after dumping the cache. Nothing seems to work to allow apps to be updated through the Amazon Appstore. When I tried your suggestion of Resetting App Preferences, I did briefly see the screen that google was verifying the download, but it did not ask me to set a default, and was only on the screen for a millisecond. As long as I dont lose the app data, I guess I will keep with the uninstall/re-install method. Thank you for your suggestions!

Ok, here's another possible option. Go to your All Apps screen, and select Google Settings. Then tap "Verify apps," and uncheck the box. This should stop Google from scanning non-Play Store apps automatically. Might need to reset app preferences again.

Thanks! That solved my issue. Took me a minute to figure out what you meant by the All Apps screen - I thought you meant in the settings screen before I figured out you literally meant the Apps index in the upper right of the screen.

This issue started for me in early June when I last let Amazon app store update itself. from that moment on updates of existing apps would not work and like Gurubone I had to resort to uninstalling any apps first in order to update them. Some apps kept their settings some did not. A royal pain. But your work around solved my issue. Hopefully Amazon will eventually figure out the root of the issue.

I should add - this happened on my 1st Gen Motorola Xoom tablet. Software is up to date.

But thank you for your solution!

Good thing I checked this site out. I have a Samsung Galaxy Express from at&t. I couldn't find the option in the "All Apps" section to turn off "Verify Apps", nor could I find it in the Google Play Store, and couldn't find it in the Settings > Apps section as that section doesn't exist in my phone (no thanks to at&t for this set up). For those that may run into this problem and have a similar set up, the only way I could find around this was to "Uninstall All Updates" to the Google Play Store via Settings > Application Manager > Google Play Store and press the "Uninstall All Updates" button.

This is the only work-around I could find, but this thread pointed me in the right direction as I couldn't figure out where the heck the Parsing Errors were coming from. After uninstalling all updates to the Google Play Store, I went back to the Amazon App Store, went to the update apps section and started updating with no parsing errors! Woo! :D

Sorry about being late to the party, but I just came across the same issue on my phone. I realized that my login info for the Amazon App Store was not correct and, therefore, it wouldn't let me update my apps since I didn't 'own' them. I cleared the data, opened up the Appstore and then logged in correctly. Now, everything is updating just fine. Good luck!

just need to clear default settings on play store (the Google one) then download the update and choose install rather than verify and install. should not get parsing error.

OMG thank you so much. I have not updated an Amazon app since early this year because of this issue. Figured I'd search again today and this worked. Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket
