Amazon fire HD 8 dual speakers

I bought my son the HD 8 last year and haven't really played with it. I was doing something for my son recently and noticed sound coming from only one speaker and not both at the same time. Is it not true dual speakers and have only sound come out of one? Thanks.

I contacted Amazon and they are sending a replacement.
