As much as I want a wifi only device, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to rely so much on the cloud without 3g.

I think this device looks awesome, but it definitely poses a few problems. People are getting enticed by the $199 price, however missing the point that to really make it worth it you have to get a Prime membership, which would make it $278 in the first year, and an additonal $79 each year thereafter. Plus to rely on the cloud for nearly everything you need constant 3G or Wi-Fi to really make it tick. This would cause some people to either turn their phone into a hotspot or purchase a Mi-Wi, or something along those lines. Which only ups the overall cost of the Fire (assuming they're going the legal route and not through root or jailbreak). Now we're WELL into the $300-400 range after having it for two years. Not to mention the purchase of apps, books, shows, movies, etc.
I am actually looking at the Samsung GTab 7.0 Plus instead of this. Yes it is $400, however it won't have to rely on the cloud so much and won't force me into nearly as many purchases. It is 16GB onboard, plus is microSD ready up to 32GB, so you could get 48GB of onboard storage for $400 (assuming you already had a 32GB card). It honestly seems like the better deal in the long run. Plus it can do the same thing that the Fire can do with movies, books, etc., and you have the full Android Market.
Just my thoughts.
