I've been calling Amazon Wireless every day for the past week trying to find something out about my phone. As with everyone else, no one knows anything. I placed my order on May 10, which I believe is the first day it was available. For me, Amazon was the cheapest option, since I bought the phone with no contract, and everywhere else the phone cost more and included tax. I refuse to pay more just to get the phone earlier, as it was quite a good chunk of money to spend.
There are a few things I don't understand, though:
- I've seen mention of a free car charger? Why didn't I get one of these? I guess I ordered too early (it seems everyone mentioning it may have preordered after me). I was told by a CSR that if it wasn't automatically added to my order, it's because they were out of them, which doesn't make any sense. It's more likely because I didn't extend my contract. Either way, they'll be hearing about that today.
- On my first call with them last week, I was upgraded to free one-day shipping, which is a day sooner, I guess (even though I get most Amazon orders in a day anyway). I was previously told that if they changed the shipping on my order, I would essentially get moved "to the back of the line", i.e. my preorder would no longer be filled on the order in which it was taken, which prospect horrified me. However when the other rep upgraded my shipping, no mention of this was made. Was anyone else told this?
While I'm hopeful that we'll get this phone prior to July, at this point I have a working OG EVO, rooted and running 6 or 7 different ROMs through Boot Manager. This should keep me busy enough, but what is completely distracting is the uncertainty around the launch date, the fact that other preorders have been filled, and people are walking around enjoying this device. That should be me!
I guess the only consolation is that the WireFly preorderers are in the same boat.
