An effective AutoStart App

Hello all, I am looking for a good AutoStart app so that I can somewhat control what automatically starts when the phone reboots &/or powers on. I am working w/the Epic 4g and have had the problem of the Media Hub & DRM auto starting (restarting) after a phone call and/or fast reboot.

Can anyone recommend an app (paid or free)? I tried AutoStart Killer (by Easyfilter) but deleted it because I couldn't control the DRM or MediaHub Apps on reboot.

Thans for your help.

are you rooted? because you can set that up without any apps if you manage your apps' memory and effectively select whether they start or not.

Tasker
pretty much anything you can think of a phone doing--it can do.
seriously. best app i've purchased from the marketplace--well worth the money the developer charges for it.

+1 for Tasker.

It may take you a little bit to get things setup but the app is well worth the money.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am not rooted. This app (Tasker) looks like it is not for the "noobies at heart."

Is the App hard to set up? right now I just want to stop Media Hub & DRM from starting on reboot.

ShaLea - Tasker takes some time to setup and get familiar with the app and the commands, but, there's a lot of information available on the web for Profiles, settings etc. The advantage is once you get familiar with Tasker it has amazing options/features to help customize your options.

It took me a while (and some searching) to setup some profiles I use. The main reason I bought the app was to turn GPS on when I use Navigation, Maps, or Sprint Navigation. Now that I have it setup it works great. When I launch any of the apps it turns GPS on then when I exit the app it turns GPS off. This alone to me is well worth the cost of the app.

If you do decide to go this route I'm sure there are folks here that could help you with the setup for what you're trying to do. Also, if you purchase the app and need help post or PM me and I'll see if I can help. I'm no expert with Tasker but may be able to help.

UPDATE: Before I say this I don't use any task killers and there are many treads/reasons why you shouldn't. With that said found an app called "Autorun Killer". It may be what you're looking for. Just wanted to share this. Again, I don't use any task/auto killers and would advise against it, but found this and wanted to let you know about the app.

does tasker work without root, and if not will any app work without root?

alovell83 - You don't need to be rooted to use Tasker. I'm not rooted so I can't speak to how it works when rooted but my assumption is it would work find either way.

So far as I know (which admittedly isn't a whole lot when it comes to Android), you need to be rooted to have any meaningful control over which apps start or don't. I have a DroidX and that is what I had to do to get that control. Of course, HTC may/probably is much different.

Anyway, try AutoStarts from the Market. It is rated as very good... but you have to be rooted to control what starts or doesn't. I also don't have a REALLY good idea about how it works and I'm playing with it to get it to work. Then again, I don't know that ANY of these "auto start" control apps are going to be easy to use since they are starting to get into the guts of the OS...

I just wish that the AutoStarts dev would start a support thread here.

However, I WOULD suggest you be careful as keeping some apps from starting can have serious bad ju-ju effects on how your phone operates.

Tasker will allow you to do a lot with you device without being rooted. I'm not rooted on my EVO and using Tasker without any issues. I think the app is well worth the price for what it can do.

I am rooted. How do I prevent certain apps from loading on boot? I have a few apps that I want to stop automatically loading.

Weird. I can't get to the second page of this thread

I can after I posted but I was wondering how I can prevent certain apps from loading with root.
