Android 11 won't allow management of lower row icons on home screen

[Android Central Question]

Love the lower row on home screen. I use 1st, 3rd, and 5th spaces with blank gaps on 2nd and 4th spaces. After updating to 11, those 2nd & 4th spaces automatically fill with the icons of the most recently opened apps. How to I restore the blank gaps to 2nd & 4th spaces?

Welcome to Android Central! Long-press any empty part of the homescreen, select Home Settings, then Suggestions, then turn off the toggle for Suggestions on Home Screen.
