Below is the instructions I received from Google Support when messages wouldn't validate my phone number on Pixel 4a. I use Google Fi as my carrier. Two things, do not be on the beta versions of Carrier Services or Messages. Also turn off any VPN running on you phone and turn off wifi calling.I did and had extended conversations and no luck. The initially tried to blame my carrier but that didn't go anywhere. They even suggested that I had a faulty handset and wanted me to buy a new one. I am now letting it rest for 10 days and let's see if they will whitelist my number now.
Clear Carrier Services:
On your Android phone or tablet, turn on Airplane mode.
Go to Settings.
Tap Apps & notifications >> See all apps >> Show system >> Carrier Services.
Tap Storage >> Clear Storage.
Force quit then restart the Carrier Services app.
Go to Settings. Tap Apps & notifications >> Carrier Services >> Force Stop.
Clear the Messages app
To clear the Messages app:
On your Android phone or tablet, go to Settings.
Tap Apps & notifications >> Messages.
Tap Storage >> Clear Storage.
Force quit then restart the Android Messages app.
Go to Settings >> Apps & notifications >> Messages >> Force Stop.
Turn off Airplane mode.
After a few minutes, check your chat features status to see if you’re connected.
Notes:
If you clear the Messages app, you won't lose your messages, but you'll lose all Messages settings.
Some of your Rich Communication Services (RCS) messages will be marked "MMS," and you might have problems with RCS groups until you get RCS back.
You may not immediately be able to use group chats after re-enabling RCS unless someone else in the group chat can initiate a conversation.
