Android 12 Beta 3 out. Features and Bugs.

So, I reported this bug yesterday right after I installed Beta 3 on my Pixel 5. Not sure if it's a bug or not, however, IF you have your window transition animations in Developer Settings set to .5X instead of 1X, when locking the phone, your notifications and battery percentage don't show. You've got to unlock the phone twice, then re-lock it just to get the always on lock screen to show correctly If you change the animations back to 1X, which is stock, it works correctly. It's a really weird quirk. haha. Check out my screenshot to better understand what I'm talking about.

My phone is much less jittery with Beta 3, especially app drawer scrolling. It's still there a little, but much less noticeable. The jittery scrolling was terrible in Beta 2, at least for me.

Yeah, so is my phone. I've noticed that ALL of the animations are smoother. Plus, i re-enabled dark mode due to the icon theming, and went back to gesture based navigation, and that's all smoother, and faster as well.

Wow that's how I have my transition settings and got no notifications. I'll change back to 1 and test it out.

Yeah, as I was watching The In-Depth Reviews on YouTube, He was talking about the Always on Lock Screen animation which you can't really see unless you slow down the animations a bit. I'm guessing that Google is figuring that most of us do NOT change up the Transition Animations much because they're soo focused on making ALL of the animations beautiful performing which makes sense to me. At least that's what I'm thinking is going on here as the reasoning behind it.

If you look closely & carefully at the locking animation, you'll notice that the gesture bottom bar slowly transitions toe the always on lock screen battery percentage notification. If you have your transitions at .5x, that's where this transition animation gets stuck.

Yeah, definitely Goodluck, and let me know what happens with your phone!

So I immediately started getting my notifications on my lock screen. Unfortunately though, the phone feels very slow with everything at 1 instead of .5. Guess I'll deal with it.

Hahaha, yeah, I know the feeling 100%! I mean, the animations are beautiful to look at. It's just that we're not used to the transition animations at "normal" speed. lol. I'll have to get used to it as well. I'm glad i can help you out a little bit with the quirk of Beta 3!

I have all of my transitions set to zero and I get temp and notifications on the lock screen.

Yeah, you're right. I tested out transition animation at zero, and my notifications work as well. It's something to do with the .5X setting. Although. If you turn all animations completely off, when multi-tasking, the OS is a bit janky and stutter. I am leaving mine on 1x now.

I tried Beta 1 and Beta 2, but both of them had issues using Google Assistant on my Pixel Buds 2, using a Pixel 4a 5G. I so want to give Beta 3 a try. I'm thinking that if I get Beta 3, and I still have issues, would a factory reset possibly fix it? I didn't try that with my other tries, and I hear that seems to correct other problems.

What issues are you having with Assistant using the Buds2? I wear mine all day for work calls and I can see if I have the same issues as you.
The only issue I have using the Buds2 is asking Assistant to take a screenshot. It won't but will give me instructions how to do it. That is an issue I had with A11 as well. So not unique to the A12 Betas.

It didn't even respond to "Hey, Google" for me. I couldn't ask to make calls, or resume a podcast or music. Basically Assistant didn't work at all. I did file a bug report for Betas 1 and 2, but if I'm reading the website correctly, it doesn't appear anything is being done on it.

I certainly don't have those issues except sometimes it won't redial when I ask it if the lock screen is on.
I recommended uninstalling Google updates and setting up Assistant again.
Then A: See if Assistant works and issue is solved and if so update Google or B: Reinstall Google updates and then setup Assistant.
I hope this makes sense.

You can also clear Google app data and cache and setup Assistant again. If that doesn't work then try the previous suggestions above.

Well, as you can see in my screenshot, I've already summitted this bug report to Google beta Feedback.

I just noticed (on my lunch break) that we lost the custom theme options in the Styles & Wallpaper menu. Bummer, I liked to change my app icon styles periodically to freshen things up. I do kind of like the new "wallpaper themed" app icons, will have to experiment with how they change when I change wallpaper.

After playing around with different options, I found this to work for keeping the phone fast while still getting notifications on the lock screen. I couldn't deal with how slow it felt with everything at 1.Screenshot_20210715-133831.jpg

So, it's really weird because when I set my window transitions the the .5x, 1X, and .5X, my lock screen wasnt showing notifications still. Plus, my gesture bottom bar wouldn't go away. Mine just work with the transition settings at 1X for some odd reason. Eh, I'll just have to get used to it.at least for now.
