Hey, that's pretty cool. Said it's probably coming later though. Maybe keep an eye out for gboard updates

haha, yeah exactly.. I just wasn't sure if it's an APK file we can side-load, or probably a Fick of a server-side switch on Google's part. lol

That sounds cool. I didn't know that was supposed to be a thing. I haven't heard anything about it and various tech sites that are showing everything on beta-12 have not even mentioned it so perhaps it's coming later?
So switch to the Google app beta, then upgrade to 12 beta? Will I need to factory reset?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here use bedtime mode at all? Screenshot_20210615-222821.jpg

I've always had an assistant morning routine pre beta update but now it never works from the lock screen anymore. I have it set to work but no go. When I wake up I say hey google, good morning and it goes into my morning info routine or at least it used to while I lay in bed a few more minutes. I loved this feature. Now she says I need to unlock first. Well dang it I gotta get outta bed to do that, defeats the whole purpose.
Anybody else have issues getting assistant to work from a locked screen?

Just google the android 12 beta program and opt in, real easy, when updating to android 12 you don't need to factory reset. Once you sign back into your google account on your phone everything transfers over and you're done. The only thing I noticed is some of my saved launchers had certain settings messed up but was an easy fix. If you want to make a fresh back up first wouldn't hurt although I did not bother.

That is pretty much how we all upgraded. But in some circumstances the beta can break functionality and then it is a good idea to factory reset if this happens. Cured all my issues.

No, I'm not sure why this was happening to me. And Android 11 if I were to try to upload multiple pictures to someone and slacked at once, the upload would fail every single time. I had to do a singleton upload every single time which drove me nuts. And Android 12 Beta for slack on my phone, it works normally. Go figure!

I've never did a beta in my life, but for some reason I want to try this one lol. Probably because it seems so different than any other Android upgrade I've ever seen :D

So what happens when you're on the beta and the public release rolls out? Do you just get the final release and then any normal OTA updates like everyone else? Am I crazy for even considering this? Should I stop looking at all the cool new features and visuals of 12 lol. I think I have a problem ... it's called Androiditis :p

haha, yeah, once the public release comes out, you'll just upgrade to that just like you normally would. Yeah. So far, Android 12 beta 2 is awesome. I barely have anything to complain about. ha-ha

Others have reported serious and not so serious bugs. Your experience will vary. Most reviewers do not recommend putting it on your main phone. Just a warning.
If it does cause issues you will have to do a factory reset which will wipe your phone. That is something else to consider. So proceed at your own risk.

Also keep in mind that last year, with Android 11 Beta there were some additional steps we had to take to get off beta and back into the regular version so we started receiving normal monthly security updates. I don't remember what those extra steps were but I'm sure we can find the thread from 11 Beta last year and it's all in there

Well, the only thing I was talking about is once you're in the beta program, once the final production release version of the OS comes out from Google, what I was saying is that you just upgrade normally to it OTA style. What I was saying before was that Android 11 beta at least for me was a little bit bugger than 12 beta is. With any beta program from Google, if you want to opt out of it, you have to wipe your phone and start fresh with the last stable version of the OS.

As others have stated there are always risks with beta OS updates. My only advice to anyone in this situation is: if you are not worried about doing a factory reset, then jump in. If you are one of those people that dread a factory reset like the plague, don't join a beta program. Not saying you will have to factory reset, the chances are very high you will not have to. Android 12 beta seems very stable. But there is always that chance and many people don't even know what a factory reset is or how to do it, how to setup a reset phone again, etc.

Correct, but last year there were extra steps besides just updating to the public release.

Here is a link to the Beta 12 page: https://www.google.com/android/beta
If my memory serves me correctly when the beta program ends and closes the public release will automatically be updated on the phone. It will not wipe the phone when it does. Maybe you have to leave the beta program but I don't recall having to do that to get the public release.
