Android 14 Beta 1

Decided to try my pixel seven again after giving it a rest for a few days. Apparently incoming calls do not come in. Outgoing calls can be made. Not sure what’s up with it but it’s going back on the shelf.

I noticed this crash on boot and apparently it is what affects the cellular service issue.

From android police:

Bug: com.android.qns crashes on boot

Right off the bat, booting into Android 14 Beta 1 shows us an annoying app crash dialog box for a service called com.android.qns. A little digging reveals this is a rather widespread issue, happening on almost every Pixel booting into the new beta. Google has acknowledged this in-your-face flaw, but it appears to be a critical service linked to cellular connectivity. One affected redditorreported the inability to place or receive calls.

Fix: Power cycle

Some people had some luck restoring their cellular network connection after power-cycling the phone once (switching off and then on again, different from a soft reboot). The service crash dialog box reappears, but cellular connectivity does, as well. On our personal devices, we saw the crash dialog, but didn’t see the absolute loss of cellular network connectivity.

Unfortunately I need to have reliable cell service so can’t chance it going in and out.

Battery life on this BETA is horrible. I have to charge my phone twice or thrice a day with the same usage as I did before installing the BETA. Mostly its the idling time that sucks so much battery despite me having had put all apps on restricted

Mine is on par with Android 13

I'm done with this or any other BETA. This is so unstable it cannot even be tagged as Alpha. The biggest issue I had with it was connectivity. SMS messages being delayed sometimes by 1 minutes or sometimes by up to 5-10 minutes which causes me a big issue when receiving OTP messages. The phone also felled very laggy and slow.

The biggest problem with these BETA updates is that you can upgrade from a non BETA OS to the beta without wiping your device but if you decide that you no longer want the BETA. you have to wipe your device which for me takes a day to install all m apps and configure them. Google should allow us to downgrade without wiping the device!

I know you would like to be able to downgrade from a BETA to stable without a wipe but you have to understand what is happening when you "upgrade" to a BETA. The BETA files are the latest-greatest, whether or not they are stable, and these newer files OVERWRITE many of the files that were running on the stable version. Stripping these new files back out while reinstalling the old stable files would take a great deal of work, or a completely separate build sitting idle, while BOTH builds are being updated with all changes you may make while running the BETA. The chances of this downgrade being successful is practically NIL. Since the downgrade would probably end up a corrupt mess, and to mitigate a plethora of complaints, it's easier to just wipe and restart. Thus the reason for the warning when joining a BETA program.

Cool, thanks for this. Any idea if it fixes the signal issue, calls receiving, sending not working etc. from what I read it was a wide spread issue so hoping this fixes.
Edit, NM, thanks for posting details, unfortunately doesn’t mention call issue fix.

So the update fixed my status bar 5G/4G/LTE display that's next to the signal bars. Cosmetic I know but.. signal strength seems a little better so I wonder if some of the signal issues were addressed.

Strangely enough, my LTE icon disappeared today. Everything still worked but it was odd. Then the update came this afternoon.

Alas my adventure with Beta 1 was challenging and so reverted back to stable and all is good. I await Beta 2 and will take the plunge again. Now up to April 1 on the Play Services after a 54 mb update.

I don’t understand why they didn‘t address the modem issue. A lot of beta testers can’t even use their phones as a phone so how can they beta test?

I got a new A14 update this morning, 11Mb. It has fixed the Wallpaper issue and the numeric entry (bank pin) issue I had on P7. I believe other bugs were also fixed

Sent from my Pixel 7 using AC Forums mobile app

All of a sudden, every app on my phone with fingerprint login no longer works. I can't enable it on anything.

I use the same live wallpaper and never change it. Today it changed and I don't think that I did it. Anyone else?
